officially created the latex template/repo for my thesis... big day
also big-small (escaped) fuck up of the day: in my general extremely tired stupor I forgot to turn off the laser for the raman spec while changing samples. lifted the curtain to see that my sample was green. a solid ten seconds of "green sample? huh?" and NO blink reflex before I realised that the green was the laser. dropped the curtain and FREAKED. I did put the shutter in so green was much reduced in intensity but many a nightmare story about class 3/4 lasers about blindness and permanent visual defects. and tbh i'm not sure what class my laser is exactly. such details never quite stuck in my mind. that said – three different "checkpoints" for the raman; shutter, switch and curtain – hoping that with one in it should be fine (at least, I am not presently blind). why do they let me around the instruments. i am not adult enough for any of this

editing article: I crave the sweet release of death. Endless years I have suffered - tell me when it will end? Language is meaningless and I have lost sight of my path. Here alone in the desert I wander, searching the empty expanses of my mind for a synonym. How to tempt Word into formatting my diagrams without ruinous consequence? I am the master of my own garden of sorrow.
writing the cover letter to go with the article submission: somehow f u c k i n g w o r s e

off for an R training course today in statistics and sampling. base level expectations of assumed knowledge is that "you know some R" as "the course will not be of benefit to complete beginners". took me four hours to download R yesterday... safe to say I will be disappointing and dismaying the good people of notts with my unlearned incompetence. guess we'll see if I learn me a thing or two despite my newness to this language.

Me, defending my dissertation next month: I'm coming to the unfortunate conclusion that I don't actually know how to read.
