Scala School in Session
Hopper's Boston office and hack/reduce hosted the first installment of Scala School on Monday, which gave two of our back-end heros the opportunity to sing the praises of Scala, the sleek and concise general-purpose programming language that has shrunk the length of Hopper’s code by half.
Over the past two years Hopper has transitioned from Java to 100% of new code in Scala, and we’re in good company: Twitter, Foursquare, Ebay, LinkedIn, and many others use it, too.
Hopper’s Phil Laflamme and Ben Kirwin gave a Hopper-fied version of Twitter’s original Scala School program. Their tag-teamed two-hour presentation covered the nitty-gritty of Scala’s concepts and syntax.
Fifty people attended and participated, asking a lot of great questions. If you weren’t among them, fear not!
