“Could you put that down…that was not for you!”
I’m sure I had loads of ships over the years before I knew what the term “shipping” was. But Rachel and Eddie from Waterloo Road are definitely who I can officially call my “first ship” - and I still ship them now, over 10 years on. This entire scene from Series 4 Episode 14 is definitely my favourite scene between Rachel and Eddie and then with Philip and Bolton too.
Rachel really never ever turned off head teacher mode, especially looking after her nephew Philip when her sister ran off. And I just love her nit-picking, it’s so Rachel. Worrying about every little thing. I mean I’d be worried letting some of Waterloo Road’s finest into my house. And then assigning sole responsibility on Bolton, whom looks up to Rachel more than any other student. He just knows the trouble he’d be in if the house was left to ruin. I definitely think he had a secret crush on Rachel.
Eddie wanted Rachel as Rachel for the night, not Miss Mason or Auntie Rachel, just Rachel. And we rarely saw that.
Their relationship was doomed from the off, I mean if your ship does actually get together in canon, when does it ever end well? Too many complications. I’m so glad they got some time together. I just hate Melissa more and more for ruining what could have been the most perfect relationship. Eddie adored Rachel, Rachel adored Eddie. It just got extremely complicated. And there was no way that it would have worked.
