MY PARENTS DIED AT SEA
@hallublin I was so excited last night that I forgot to look at what you wrote and now I can't stop laughing thank you so much
Triad Verse Week: Day 2, “Untouched” Fandoms - The Thrilling Adventure Hour
Catching up on the Triad Verse Week.
(Please note, the phrase “teaming up” is slang for a relationship between two heroes or two villains, mostly used to avoid talking about sex on a supposedly child-appropriate show.)
So a while back I had the idea for Captain Laserbeam/Phillip Fathom/The Red Plains Rider. Like, if Red was an AU version of herself, like some Western-themed vigilante who rides into Apex City in pursuit of some dastardly foe.
But Apex City is Captain Laserbeam’s territory so she’s gotta come to him for the ok, and Captain Laserbeam is smitten with this badass redheaded superhero, with her lasso and her low-slung hat and her swagger. And she’s mostly focussed on her quarry but Captain Laserbeam sure is a sweetheart, for all his bluster and ego, so she asks him to ride-along with her this time.
Her quarry is down at the docks, which attracts PHILLIP FATHOM, THE DEEP SEA DETECTIVE. He wants to dispense the Law of the Sea on this criminal, and Red challenges him for the right to bring the villain in. Phillip and Red hit it off right away, what with their taste for swift and sometimes harsh justice and shared tragic backstories (“MY PARENTS DIED AT SEA!” ... “My parents died in the desert.”) Captain Laserbeam feels laser-jealous.
Eventually Red figures out that Phillip and Captain Laserbeam have teamed-up in the past, and she’s ready to ride outta town and leave them to it. But they find her at Apex City limits and ask her to stick around for a while and help them fight their foes, and maybe go for ice cream if she wants to, y’know, make the team-up official?
And Red can’t help but stick around with these two goofballs.
Villains quake at the news of this powerful triad team-up.
In a stunning plot twist, Phillip Fathom is the last one to figure out Captain Laserbeam's secret identity, mostly because he had been developing feelings for both of them but in different ways so when someone tells him he sighs with relief because this makes life a lot simpler suddenly
In which Phillip Fathom is wary to call Captain Laserbeam his friend.

“You don’t understand, Captain Laserbeam! You were the bait! Now for the tackle. He’s on his way.“
“Who’s on his way? I won’t have you bringing the Adventurekateers into this!” Captain Laserbeam began to struggle against his bonds, but willpower required time and focus.
“Why, your partner, of course. Phillip Fathom! He’s been a jellyfish stinger in my side for far too long now, and I have sprung the perfect trap! Capture his partner, and he won’t be far behind.”
“Ah, um. Well,” Captain Laserbeam said, shifting uncomfortably against his bonds. “We aren’t really, technically, um. Partners.”
Thanks to @shannondapper. For @thevioletsunflower.
Look, in the distance… below the horizon. Is it a submarine? Is it a coelacanth? NO! He IS the sub-aquatic darkness. He is the Abyssopelagic layer. He exerts the pressure of justice on the metazoic creatures who lurk in the deep. He is the hero the ocean deserves. He is your semiamphibious knight. He is… PHILLIP FATHOM, DEEP SEA DETECTIVE.

Phillip Fathom: An adventurekateer is in distress!
Captain Laserbeam: An adventurekateer? In distress?! Which One?! Don't say Christopher!
Phillip Fathom: IT'S PATRICK!!!
