With Wide Brush" is a study from and for a series of paintings ("history of painting"). It combines modern painting strategies, such as those of Josef Albers and Ad Reinhardt, and images gleaned from the New York Times and D.I.Y. Encyclopedia circa 1960.

Phillip McCrum lives and works in Vancouver, and currently teaches at the University of British Columbia. His affiliation with the Or Gallery stems from exhibitions at the Or in 1984, 1986 and 1998. McCrum was director of the Or Gallery from 1985-1987.
