Photographer Of The Week
Phillip Maisel. http://www.phillipmaisel.com/. A man of many talents and one of his greatest ones is confusing the heck out of my mind hole. This man is a talented photographer and his ability to manipulate sculpture and 2-D objects in order to use the camera and display these works in a 3-D image is incredible. Don’t understand what I just said? I don’t fully grasp it either. He takes what seems like mundane objects or flat sculptures like his work with Stack II in 2013, but the image that comes out of this project is so simplistically beautiful and well constructed that you don’t even care that it’s a stack of papers and material leaning against a wall. I also love his piece Stack V from 2014 which throws the objects on top of a tile to increase the differences of color and texture. This delicate array of color, shape, texture, and size is genius. Phillip Maisel - I like it.
I’m skipping town (without Rouby sadly), but documentation of my show is up at gregorylindgallery.com Let me know if you want to meet up at my show upon my return, after the 14th of August. . . . @gregorylindgallery #phillipmaisel (at Gregory Lind Gallery)
#SanFrancisco artists Sofie Ramos and Phillip Maisel share the @proartsoakland gallery in a dual exhibit curated by Andres Guerrero of @guerrerogallery! Starting tomorrow, I am taking over Kadist [@kadistkadist] Instagram for two weeks as a part of the “Artist Not at the Studio, Curator Not at the Office” series. During this time, I'll be creating and posting a series of animated GIFs, which will go rapidly through the photos that I've staged at my studio in San Francisco during the past few years. The GIFs are less photographic than performative, and allow the viewer to get insight to my process of arranging materials. #anatscnato #PhillipMaisel
