Again, I don’t have pictures because I live in the moment, but the Bearded Ladies Cabaret story time was SO GOOD. I was a might skeptical, because while I philosophically support a drag queen story time, sometimes, well, they’re not good at reading books to kids. But this? We’re going to go every week. John is a fabulous singer; the song choices were so sweet, loved the theme. The story they read was a Frog and Toad which I love with all of my queer heart. The kiddos LOVED IT. There were juice boxes and citywide specials. Loved what they’ve done with the venue. I ran into (more) people from my parenting and arty social circle. It was so great.
After Grey and I went to a bar and met up with Dude I Married and Juni coming from the garden, and both kids were ~*reasonable*~ so it was a pretty nice evening all around.
Doesn’t do this justice or capture the periodic performance parts but I also had to stop filming because my kids slipped through the crowd and needed to low key chill chase after them. They know the other blond kid and she had separated herself from the two adults watching her, so you know, triple the reason to put down the phone and be in the moment.
This has nothing to do with comics, just a shameless plug. Tonight I'm opening a show I have been working on all summer as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. If anyone who follows this blog happens to be from Philly, come check us out!! "Game Show Show" is an original piece of devised theater created by Found Theater. The show takes place in the world of a fictional trivia show where contestants and audience alike are taken on a journey of desires, prizes, hidden secrets and terrible commercial breaks.
