Simple statement of fact. You know the issues and the common causes. The art involves lining these issues up into one simple, yet complex, statement. Every word has meaning and serves 2 purposes. First, the statement clearly states the problem keeping your team, company, business, operation, etc, from reaching the desired environment … whatever that is! Second, each word has meaning (and will more so over time) to the team that executes it, to the leader that talks about it, and to the support structure that resources ways and means to overcome it. These words will also turn into messaging, narratives, marketing, and motivational tools. Being concise when issuing priorities is an important consideration for how your people exercise these inputs. They need to have freedom of action for the specific area and their style of operation.
