a comment on some post: "even as someone who *does* believe in things like the afterlife and reincarnation, i think there's an important amount of...separation of belief from fact that has to happen? i know that my belief is just that—belief—unsupported by reality, yet still something i personally hold close to me, and this ultimately means that i *cannot* use it to argue anything about anyone else's reality, or even reality itself outside of me. i am willingly subjecting myself to something that has a high probability of not being objective truth, and to have genuine discussions about the world with people, it is imperative that i acknowledge that. it takes a lot of compartmentalization, and it is also uncomfortable, but it's ultimately necessary"
