On the newest Homestuck update where grimbark Jade is being overpowered by Jake's hope field.
I realize I've been fairly inattentive to my blog for the longest time but I feel I should probably state my thoughts on this update. I may decide to revamp and restart my blog again some time in the future when I have more time but until then I'll just leave my reflections on this newest turn of events. Now completely overlooking the whole moral conundrum that comes with Aranea liberating Jake's mind without him properly earning it and potentially preventing him the chance of a properly fulfilled journey of enlightenment, I'll simply begin by stating that at this point Jake sort of becomes the faceless manifestation of Hope, albeit in a strange form that's statements are less then sensical.
Now in these past few pages we find that Jade, having become fed up with not simply Jake's words, but her inability to deal with him as easily as the others, is thrown into a fit of rage and attempts to overthrow him with the power of the green sun itself. This displays an obvious clashing between something that is a physical manifestation that has a definitive value of energy output and "power". A type of power that would be considered unquestionable by virtue of it's more concretely understood power. Whereas hope itself is sometimes considered varying in power and can often be considered as "flimsy" or "weak" and at other times a great source of power and strength. But this again lends itself as a sort of indefinite power that varies between situations where it's limits are not exactly known. So one could easily expect and understand how Jade's green sun powers and mastery over space could potentially overpower such an indefinite and sometimes fickle force. But in this case we're seeing the raw potential of Hope itself in its unadulterated and pure state. Meaning that the conflict is not simply a personal one between Jake and Jade, but one of outlooks where Jade is infact fighting the concept of hope itself. So it can be inferred that grimbark Jade, while a possessed and mind controlled version of Jade, still retains some sens of self as seen in past pesterlogs where she displays some level of free-will. Which means that it is possible that she does experience some of these darker thoughts that she has spoken of, but had held those feelings in while she had free will and is now releasing her inner frustrations both from the world as well as her less then great interactions with others [an example being the break-up with Davesprite where he didn't even bother explaining why he broke up with her, probably leaving her with some feelings of guilt and anger at his bold move without taking into account her own free will and her feelings on the matter]. So long story short, this fight where Jake comes out victorious is not simply a conflict between character's but Jade possibly coming face to face with the power of hope she had probably tossed aside in favor of more reliable and tangible results. Cause keep in mind that originally Jade was a very optimistic and charismatic character overall, but while she does for the most part retains these traits, she has been to an extent harmed by the events that have taken place during her adventures and those darker feelings that she has experienced and are now letting out and unleashing in her grimbark form are now being defeated by the pure power of hope. This shows that Hope, while an indefinite power, is one that is truly immeasurable and infinite. It is only truly limited by one's imagination, love, and will. It is the light in the darkness that illuminates all possibilities, no matter how slim or unlikely they may be. And now, Jade is being shown 1st hand the very power she once believed in. And hopefully once defeated she will return to normal and will over time become more open and honest with her friend's about her feelings to prevent any ill feelings from building up as they have. So I guess the point of this post is a mere reflection on how one should never let go or underestimate something as powerful as hope, as it is the driving force that allows us to make our dreams a reality.
