I am making no secret of the fact that I don't particularly enjoy Andy Weir's style of writing and have issues with his handling of some things in the book. He's more of a "rough texture circle planet" kind of writer. Could be a little more evocative.

But this part here was well done, especially because of the twist that he was sent against his will:

I’m terrified just thinking about it. And it’s not just sudden terror. It’s a cozy, comfortable terror with a permanent seat at the table. I’ve felt it for a long time. This is real. The sun is dying. And I’m tangled up in it. Not just as a fellow citizen of Earth who will die with everyone else —I’m actively involved. There’s a sense of responsibility there. That's a very noble facet of Grace, right there. Deep down he always was a person who had what it takes. It was just buried under more selfish impulses. And those are the ones it takes the longest to remember.
