started my rewatch of inago galaxy and yes i am still a shooter 4 ixal fleet. these wack aliens got me in a grip
This would've looked so cool in the anime…
alien (gay)
Goalkeepers who can and WILL punch your fucking lights out, in spite of looking like the very last people you’d ever expect to.
Made a team + manager out of my favs. I have more, but they will be put in as honourable mentions if I have the time and motivation.
Rambles about how I like all of their hair under the cut, lol.
Best to worst (affectionate):
Kinako, I love you and your simple to draw hair. 12/10, best mother.
Natsumi, your waves are just a beautiful waterfall. Very nice and soothing to draw.
Kazemaru, it's so fun to draw yours. It really does feel like the wind.
Ishigashi, I think your head should be a bit bigger à la Ixal, but you are such a joy to draw anyway. That detail will come later.
Ryugel and Gandares are very fun, too. Sorry for putting you guys in such a small box. Your hair should be it's natural length. Rip.
Beta, my girl, gorgeous hair. What is your routine?
Kariya, you are pretty easy, too. Fluffy child. Your fathers are doing an amazing job with you.
Kirino, your hair is on thin ice. I still love you, though.
Aphrodi, the frick is up with your hair? You always take me ages even though it's so simple. You may be God, with God loving hair, but you have no godly love for me.
Phobos, I would love to steal your lushes and soft as frick looking locks and wear them as my own, but frig, why are you so complicated?! At least you made me realise that Ixal born seem to have strands of hair. Or at least something similar.
Ozrock. One day I will give you the big head you actually wear on your shoulders.
This was most definitely not an excuse to draw more shadows after my Ozrock redraws made me realise how fun they are. Not at all. /s
I was catsitting for over two weeks, and naturally, I had to cattify the gang of space wizards. Alien space cats with headcanon scars on some of their ears, because why not.
Sketched kitty shenanigens on grey background incoming. (Pulled them appart, because "ALT" did not work on them.)
[Image ID: Phobos lies on his back, about to bite in a football he holds with three paws. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Aegir sings in tone deaf notes. His mouth is round like the one from the big mouth cat gif. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Ishigashi sits with the back to the viewer and glares over his shoulder. An empty bowl to his paws with judgment ray circles manifesting above him. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Deimos stares at a glowing ball between his front paws with glimmering eyes. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Ymir sleeps peacefully with his head and front legs on the ground, while the rest of his body is elevated higher. He dreams of a pterodactyl. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Sinope has an innocent, cattish smile on her face as she proclaims to have spotted an UFO. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Tarvos side profile. He smiles proudly while shiny feathers manifest on his shoulders. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Dione challenges the viewer with a glare, his right paw on a football. He stands in a small crater. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Despina sits on the Magic Amp circle, glaring at the viewer with mischievous intent. It is hinted that she has a scar on the right side of her face around her eye. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Ozrock stares up with wide eyes, which reflect the stars. He does the bleb with his tongue. /.End ID]
[Image ID: Loge playfully pulls at a football, which has been stretched out. His claws dig into the ground. /.End ID]
It is once again funky analysis and headcanon time.
Ixal Fleet headcanon part 2.
Part 1.
Warnings:
Long post, but divided into chapters.
Mentions and themes of war, trauma and abuse from family.
________
Deimos and Ishigashi — teamwork
The scene in episode forty in Go Galaxy, where both Deimos and Ishigashi stand against Tsurugi will forever live rent free in my head. The way both of them smile when they see him approach, and Ishigashi basically jokes “The usual, huh?”, as if Tsurugi and the entire Earth Eleven are just a one-trick-pony will never not amuse me.
Stop bullying children! /affectionate
________
Although he does not posses “Leadership” as a recruiting requirement, Deimos is the leader (captain) of the suicide squad during the invasion of Faram Orbius. Like the name suggest, none of that team ever thought they would make it out alive.
They probably fought to protect their home, their friends and family at the risk of their own lives. None of them cared what would happen to them, as long as they could make sure those they loved survived. Just — none of them did. The only one still standing is Deimos.
Not only has he lost his friend he was furiously fighting for to avenge, but also the rest of his crew. Regardless, he still sees himself as the captain of the former suicide squad.
His mission is not over. In this case, this selfless man does not fight for his own revenge, but for those lost on the battlefield and he refuses to disband the squad for as long as he is still standing.
Of course, his profile being written in the present could also mean that Ixal Fleet itself has an internal suicide squad, but due to only being eleven of their entire species left, I doubt anyone would let the other ten die under their watch — least of all Deimos.
This makes me think of him as the giant and tough looking man with very soft insides. He is a protector and someone who would sacrifice himself without a second thought — something that possibly his friend did for him all those years ago.
Deimos strikes me as someone with a very strong moral code and a sense of honour. I can imagine him either as someone who was brought up in a higher standing traditional family, or someone who worked for the mafia or military – maybe even both (started out as a member of the mafia and then joined the military after the war started).
No one forms a suicide squad just like this and becomes their captain, unless they have the right mindset for it. I would attribute “Bonfire” with his time in the suicide squad, or maybe even good memories he had during his days in the mafia. (Or his homelessnes during the war.)
Sadly, his other recruitment requirements are “Black Hole” and “Reconciliation”, which again could be seen in relation to Faram Orbius. However, I think it would be way more interesting if “Reconciliation” was directed at one of the Fleet members this time around.
I will not go too much into Dione, since he will be discussed later, but I, too, see him following along the path of the mafia and/or military. Maybe both were a part of rival gangs and had many dangerous encounters, before they were forced to put their differences aside and work together — ultimately surviving and now fighting as a unit.
Deimos is very flexible. He can give, but also receive orders and follows them to the letter. Although probably not as tactical and intelligent like the three brains of Ixal Fleet, he makes sure to see every mission through for as long as there is a way.
What that means for him once he can no longer avenge his fallen friend? I am not too sure. “Reconciliation” does not need to be only one thing. His new family and friends are Ixal Fleet. He would never do anything that would compromise their lives.
Due to his past, he knows when to surrender to make sure the others can be happy and safe. He knows none of them are really happy — at least, not now — but his former enemy showed him a different side (all of their lives were spared). Perhaps it is best to take a step back and reevaluate.
________
I doubt I need to mention that Ishigashi is beyond loyal toward Ozrock — just like the rest of the fleet. Though it would be fitting to do here, I will not go into the “why” just yet. Instead, let us rejoyce that Ishigashi is actually someone who we see speak more than five lines!
Most lines are handled in a very professional and polite manner. His facial expression barely changes. He never says more than he needs to, even toward Ozrock in some scenes — although I would say that is more related to both being on a mission.
While on the field, Ishigashi is able to let loose and we see a side of him that was previously not visible: This man apparently thinks of himself as very funny and makes a pun??? (“Now, why don’t I guide you toward your despair.” Go Galaxy, episode 40)
The former inconspicuous and polite guide wants them dead and taunts and laughs Earth Eleven in the face. Of course, this could also be just a translation thing, however, he does so again later (the scene I mentioned above), basically laughing with Deimos as if they exchanged an inside joke.
I would not be surprised if Ishigashi — when he returned from his part time job and has delivered all of the important information and the future battle plan(s) have been set — leans back with the others and gives his personal opinion on the tactics of every single team. A possible team bonding moment, in which everyone gossips about the rest of the galaxy.
Of course, he would still be polite, but Ishigashi strikes me as one of those polite people who can cut you so deep with his words that the pain will be felt for generations to come, even if they are not your own offspring. A humours guy with unrivalled wit hidden behind an unreadable, serious mask.
________
Instead of going down the list of recruitment requirements, I will begin with the topic “Time Machine”. Through previous discussions with @brightblueflare I see this topic not only as the wish to reverse time to go back before Ixal was destroyed, but also as a possible nudge toward a genre of books, movies, shows, or perhaps even games Ishigashi may have consumed in his past time.
In this case, I can see his taste leaning toward serious media (the part of him who has genuine interest in this type of technology), but also those that are completely out there (the snide part of him who just wants to watch the world burn (in a metaphorical sense back then)).
He uses the logic of the latter to annoy people in the fandoms of his serious media to make them leave him alone or show them how insane their takes are. Depending on his own upbringings — though, I do imagine him having had at least one sibling (twin or around the same age) — he learned from a young age to “out-crazy the crazy” to win a fight and get out of trouble.
(This makes him sound mildly unhinged, too, but I think he is just good at giving back the energy he receives. Added to this, it is safe to say Ishigashi has a very high EQ and can easily tell the mood of a room and how someone else is feeling.
He is not a trouble maker by any means, or interested in the misery of others (outside Faram Orbius, or other enemies, for that matter). Ishigashi probably uses his understanding of others a lot when he tries to resolve conflicts during Ixal Fleet’s early days.)
Perhaps this upbringing would also explain why he is able to keep his poker face straight — unlike a certain captain, who is unable to hide his cat like grin for five seconds. Not to mention the rest of the team. Everyone can tell Ixal Fleet are bad news by just looking or talking to them for a few minutes, so Ishigashi was the pick to play the “Normal Guy”.
Based on the “Three-Dimensional Projection Device” and the fact Ishigashi communicates to Ozrock about their failed attempt at keeping the safe-pods hostage in episode thirty-nine, Ishigashi probably knows a lot about technology.
Perhaps he worked inside an IT-Department, or as an engineer, if his interest in sci-fi did not lead him down the path of a hobby technician and/or programmer, while he worked as something else to finance his spare time. Maybe he even worked as a tour guide back in the day — tour guide by day, programmer/technician by night.
Now — similar to Ymir — Ishigashi also has the “Dirty Graffiti” as a requirement. Was Ishigashi painting the streets during the war as well to communicate with other Ixal fractions and to insult Faram Orbius? The question now is, were those streets physical, or digital?
(On the other hand, during my discussions with the aforementioned lovely person, we decided that Ishigashi was also drawing fanart during his spare time. But back to the graffiti during the war.)
Maybe his graffiti was more so disrupting or high-jacking the enemy’s communication system. Considering the vast technological difference between Faram Orbius and the rest of the Galaxy, I doubt his attempts worked for long.
This is also where I see Ishigashi and Deimos meeting for the first time. The military probably needed every help they could get, whether they were professional or amateurs.
Temporarily jumping in as operator, while trying his best to disable Faram Orbius’ weapons, Ishigashi would communicate with Deimos to keep going, inform him and his group about secret paths, or tell them to quickly “get out”.
The amount of people they knew and have seen fade away at the same time as the other probably haunts the back of their minds — especially in the first few months after their awakening from the cryo-pods.
________
Dione and Phobos — born to fight and defend
Of all the Ixal Fleet members, these two are the most assertive and aggressive — especially when we go by the anime. Dione was always stealing the ball from Earth and Galaxy Eleven, and Phobos was visibly ready to punch soldiers with guns. These two do not mess around.
________
To set up a proper background for Dione to explain how I see him being part of the mafia, I am going to start with his recruiting requirement “Rich Person”.
Before I looked into the topics, I initially thought a lot of them could have come from higher standing houses or had made it big themselves. But, looking further into it, even if Dione did have a rich family, he broken off contact with them long before the war had started.
While I think the antenna — or appendages for a neutral term — are sensory organs for every Ixal born citizen, Dione’s are especially sensitive to the point that they can sense movement in the air (referencing his profile). This can cause him headaches or sensory overload, if he is exposed to a lot of people or within an activity high environment.
Being a part of high-class society, public appearances and being surrounded by a lot of people with a lot of stimuli intense surroundings, Dione lived in a nightmare ever since he could think back.
Constantly wrecked by pain and being disorientated made him lash out in anger and in fear. His parents and other family members always told him to “suck it up” or screamed at him to behave better, instead of listening to him and trying to help. Their image was always more important than his well-being.
Dione ran away from home at a young age. Living on the streets, where he could avoid busy streets and public spaces was paradise compared to the golden cage. Although food and water were sparse and the nights cold, his senses helped him survive.
Though he had picked up and avoided a certain area within his new home, the mafia gang which owned the place soon found the child in their territory. Impressed by his abilities, they offered him a place with the food and water he lacked. Even when he distrusted them, Dione followed them anyway — starvation (the only reason he was caught) left him no other choice.
Just after a few days, Dione was accepted into the group and soon became a high valuable member. His abilities were handy in turf wars and to shadow people. He helped them with everything they asked and in turn, they gave him space when he was overstimulated, food, water, a warm bed, and most important, people with whom he could actually converse.
No one looked down on him. No one screamed at him. They accepted him as if he were their blood.
Growing older, his gang became rivals with the one of Deimos. Both faced each other multiple times and Deimos became more than aware of the danger that was the “Mindreading Shark” (aka an animal, which would have the role of a shark on Ixal).
Untouchable, able to predict movements of others, and able to track anyone down from miles away. If you had become Dione’s prey, there was no escape. (There were indeed rumours that said Dione is able to smell the blood of his enemies, but that is not true.)
This is the reason for “Masterful Technique”, Dione’s other topic. He has perfected his senses to the point he started training for the case in which his enemy would use his sensitivity to their advantage — which they did (especially once the actual war started). This includes training his hearing, eyesight or even the shift in temperatures or smells in the air — and soon figuring out how to work with the technology at his disposal to track, others even without his senses.
Upon the loss of his family (his gang), Dione swore vengeance. He soon realised that he could not fight against an entire army of alien invaders and begrudgingly joined the military.
Reuniting with Deimos, both barely acknowledged each other at the beginning. They knew it was not the time to fight each other, but that did not mean they had to like working together.
Still, Dione was the usual man to work as the operator (Hologram Monitor, his photo requirement). His overly perfect sense made him not a good fit on the actual battlefield, except for rescuing missions in collapsed buildings in quieter parts of the war.
(Dione was very unsatisfied with this situation, since he wanted to fight and protect what was left of Ixal. But he also knew that saving lives is important.)
When he was out, Ishigashi or others took his spot. Both of them did not actively meet before their awaking from the cold sleep. They maybe passed each other in the hall at most.
Even so, Dione was one of the first to be on board with revenge. Maybe he even saw a glimpse of his gang leader in Ozrock during their first conversation — which lowered his guards and made it easier for him to build the rest of the bridge with Deimos (and the others).
________
While Phobos’ recruiting requirement topic “Rich Person” almost send me down the trope of the rebelling rich kid — in combination to his other topic “Thug” — and therefore having an almost similar upbringing like Dione, I decided to look at him more with the thought of a goalkeeper in mind. Someone who fights to protect his home.
“He's known as Ixal Fleet's God of Destruction. He destroys everyone who approaches the goal.” – his profile. “God of Destruction” could be an old title he had back on Ixal, long before Faram Orbius started the war.
I do not think Phobos grew up in poverty, but more outside of the city in a small, quiet village. His early life was calm, perhaps tending to the local shop or farm his family owned, until people with money came and destroyed his once peaceful home for their own financial gain.
Phobos — too young at the time — had no way of defending his home, family and friends. Now stuck in a big city, with too high rent, too many loud noises, and too many people, Phobos made a promise to grow stronger and never let anyone threaten his family and home again.
While being a quick learner and an attentive student in school, he had no patience for bullies or more privileged children. If they would not take a “No” or “Go away” (or less polite versions of the former), Phobos did not hesitate to deliver a punch (or more).
This got him into significant trouble, and while he did feel sorry for dragging his family into the mix, it did not stop him. He learned to become stealthier and intercept bullying of others. While he was the one responsible, no one could legally touch him when there was no evidence that he was the assailant.
Growing older, his targets grew from bullies to criminals and corporations that targeted the weak. If there was a legal way to fight in public, he took it, joining protests and volunteering on the occasion at homeless shelters, foodbanks and the like.
At one of the homeless shelters he volunteered, Phobos took care of a Cepheid family. This family was waiting for their gifted son to finally have enough money and give them a better life.
The last thing he knew of them was their smiling faces, while their embraced their now scholar son, who had picked them up and hopefully brought them to a new home.
It was a sight he had treasured. Too many did not have the same fate. Secretly, he wished he could have done the same for his family.
Despite his good deeds, Phobos was not above sabotaging equipment or vehicles of shady companies, and beating known criminals who escaped the law. If they avoided legal prosecution or worked around the law, so would he. He would make sure they could not enjoy their freedom and continue to harm others.
Phobos never killed anyone. However, he reigned as a shadow in the dark. No one knew his face. No one knew, where he would appear, since he never stayed in the same part of the city, or even within the city itself.
He was a phantom. A silent terror. The God of Destruction — as the news labled him.
Prowling the streets made him aware of every secret passage. He knew the best escape routes and how to best intercept someone.
Similar to Dione — who certainly also knew his way around, and thanks to his ability could track others — Phobos’ photo requirement “Hologram Monitor” could possibly relate to his knowledge of his environment (since it seemingly depicts a street) and his knowledge of technology.
Sabotaging equipment is helpful in many ways, especially once the war started. Though, no matter how much he fought, no matter how much he tried to defend his home, family and the weak, Faram Orbius was the one criminal organisation he could not take down.
________
Bitway Ozrock — unity through revenge
As captain of Ixal Fleet it is necessary to be a menace to all types of societies. Whether it be through kidnapping children, celestial bodies or ultra-ancient technology capable of destroying black holes.
________
Getting the basics out of the way first, Ozrock belongs to one of those members of Ixal Fleet that have their recruiting requirements align very closely with their goal for revenge (photo of the “Floating Tournament Logo” and the topic “Black Hole”). The only outlier is the topic “Lesson” — which he shares with Despina.
The topic itself is obtained through a child talking about how they have finished all their twelve lessons and their homework, and now having time to relax, because they have already won.
I do not necessarily see Ozrock working with children like Despina — even in his spare time — though what this gives us is that Ozrock is a diligent worker, if not a workaholic.
Given that he and the rest of the Fleet have been working for years to get their revenge off the ground — including creating a fake organisation (Galactic Federation Council (GFC)), which he was leading, planning and doing most of the public speaking for — it is safe to assume he was burying himself in work most of his time.
The fact he even got so many planets to trust him enough to organise the GCG — even with Faram Orbius in the background supporting the tournament (after many negotiations!) — speaks not only for his charisma, but also his intellect to deal with people and planets way more powerful than he is.
Although it is not mentioned like in Aegir’s case, Ozrock probably went through years of studying in a university — which is where “Lesson” could also come from.
Another option is that he could have grown up in a rough environment and by readily learning and absorbing the knowledge around him, he was able to connect himself to the higher layers of society — whether through networking or manipulation, if not both.
________
It is this charisma and his skill in networking that probably made Ozrock not only the captain, but a very trusted member of Ixal Fleet. Back when the eleven awoke from their cold sleep, many — if not all of them — must have been still shaken and traumatised by the events of the war.
The realisation that they are the only ones of their entire planet left alive was slowly sinking in, and while Ozrock must have been affected by it, too, he set it aside. Whether it was by avoiding his own trauma like Sinope, or acknowledging it, but knowing he could not dwell on it for too long, as he was not the only one dealing with it cannot be said for sure. Perhaps it was a mixture of both.
Ozrock was, with a very high likelihood, among the first to get the ball rolling in getting to know his fellow survivors and shake them out of their traumatised state for long enough to make them listen and form an alliance with him.
We know that Ixal Fleet trusts him enough to sacrifice their own lives for him. While everyone (Earth and Galaxy Eleven, Earth itself, Faram Orbius and many other planets) sees Ozrock as a scheming and lying terrorist (which he is, make no mistake), it is obvious that he also extents great care and understanding toward his teammates.
Not only is he intelligent enough to come up with and plan the GCG, the GFC and co-ordinate his team (with the help of Aegir and Sinope), he is emotionally intelligent enough to bond with them on a deeper level than just networking and manipulation to see his plans through.
Of course, this could have only been a side effect and he did not actually care that much about the other survivors at first, but with the passing years — and them also extending helping hands toward him outside of their revenge — even his walls crumbled and he started to see his teammates less as tools and more as actual friends.
I do consider these walls Ozrock has as potential trust issues, which could stem from the rough past that led him to his manipulative ways. If it was due to the war or his upbringing is up for interpretation.
________
While Ozrock means business and is overall a serious person (which is also why Ixal Fleet addresses him by his last name in public) — just like with Ishigashi — he, too, has a less stoic side to him. He is often seen taunting his enemies using very expressive body language (moving his hands, positioning his upper body with the movement, etc.) — which, again, is an attribute of his charisma and the ability of any good public speaker.
His cat like grin is second nature for when he knows he has the upper hand or is right about something. Ozrock is definitely the type to tease others about their mistakes indiscriminately — whether it is light-heartedly or malicious entirely depends on the person he is talking to (i.e. friend or foe).
This playful nature extents to the way he lays out their revenge. Going the route of “tit for tat”, making Faram Orbius struggle and scared just like Ixal had been when they were first attacked. In the same way they play with Earth Eleven — while carried out with enthusiasm by everyone in Ixal Fleet, it was definitely pushed by Ozrock.
Whether his sense of sadism came with or after the war, or was something he carried before cannot be said for certain. He probably always had this playful nature to him, which in turn can also be used to make people trust him more, but it certainly got twisted and darker after the events that lead to him waking up as the only survivor with ten other people.
Either way, Ozrock comes off like a cat playing with a mouse.
________
Although this is the game and anime about football, Ozrock could still have chosen any other way to organise the GCG. It could have been any other sport, but he chose football, which could mean either Ozrock grew up with the sport, or someone else suggested it.
Ozrock himself says he cares not for football. He does not say “anymore”, which probably means he never did have an attachment to it. Maybe he chose it based on its popularity within the galaxy. It could have been simply something convenient that did not need much further explanation.
However, Ozrock is a liar. He lied about the GCG, he lied about his intentions, he lied to earth and he lied to Catra. If you are not his friend, or worse — and enemy — do not believe a word he says. Even if you are, who is to say he is actually honest about his own feelings?
While he is aware about his bigger lies, he is also a very proud man who would probably not be caught dead admitting that a foolish sport like football would interest him — even to himself. It is a means to an end. No place for attachment — especially after learning more about Tenma and knowing how much of a football freak he is (to the point of personifying it).
Ozrock has a professional, aloof and intimidating reputation to uphold. You can only tell his real intentions and feelings through his actions, since he would rarely, if at all admit to them with words.
(A rather harmless example I am thinking of is the small comic with him and Ishigashi deciding to look at the moon — which Ozrock thinks is ridiculous at first and makes fun of humans for doing such an activity… before asking Ishigashi for more mochi after staring at the moon for hours.)
Therefore, even when Ozrock is a deeply caring and empathetic (actually empathetic or low to none empathy with a great sense of logically putting together how someone else feels) person, he would let his actions speak instead of his words.
Whether football means anything to him? It indirectly saved Ixal Fleet. One can make of this what they want, because only Ozrock knows for sure.
________ Ozrock is a man of appearances, reputation and secrets. Despite having so much screen time and so many lines, he made this analysis very difficult for me. I will probably come back to him after playing through the game and thoroughly watching the anime again, because I still do not think I scratched the surface with him.
But this concludes the analysis for Ixal Fleet for now. To send this off, here are my headcanons on how Ixal Fleet individually see sakka based on vibes alone:
Phobos — played it as a child and later with his younger sibling (I decided he has at least one with a huge age gap (him being a teen when they were born)), before becoming too busy to play.
Aegir — played it with Ymir, before he went to another school to further his education, losing touch with Ymir and the sport.
Ishigashi — may have played it with his sibling when they were younger, before his other hobbies took his focus elsewhere.
Deimos — might have played with random children on the street at a young age and when he became older while he had nothing better to do.
Ymir — played with Aegir when he was still around. He lost interest and his joy for it when Aegir left, though he remembers neither.
Sinope — may have played it as a child, before becoming more interested in watching and learning about it in her spare time, which is why she understands the game so well. She probably was an influence in the GCG becoming a football tournament.
Tarvos — played it a lot through his life, especially in university in his football club. (Yes, I imagine him going to a university (the same one Aegir went to, but they never met). He tells everyone he was the best in his courses. Aegir presses x to doubt.)
Dione — if he played at all in his life, it was rarely. He is one of the best players in the team, however, due to his senses, quick thinking and learning.
Despina — played it a lot through her life as well. It was a good way for her to stay active and let off some steam after sitting and working for hours. The children especially loved it when she played with them during their breaks and she was watching the school yard.
Bitway (for unity’s sake) — played it when he was younger, before his studies and mission to climb to the top became more important.
Loge — played it casually through his life, though I can also see him doing it professionally for a while.
