Hey friends!
I've decided to share a couple of chapters of my new book on Wattpad. Head on over and read the Prologue and Chapter 1 of Phoenix's Call, Book 1 of the Voices on the Sea series.
So @doramelburne suggested this and at first I was hesitant but the more I thought about it, the more I realized she was totes right.
As some of you know, I recently worked on the first novel in my pirate series, Voices on the Sea. The novel series will follow the lives and adventures of a group of female pirates in the 18th century. The first book, Phoenix’s Call, introduces Captain Phoenix as she tries to reunite her crew and regain her ship.
Here’s the thing. I’m kinda stuck. Mostly it’s because I need to do research on the 18th century, and flesh out some backstories. However, it’s also because I have over 50,000 words written, and no feedback. Those of you who know me know that I love bouncing ideas and such off people.
So...is anyone interested in reading what I have so far? (Bonus points if you know anything about pirates) Be warned, it’s no where near complete. There are some half finished scenes and random scenes in there I wrote down just for the sake of getting them out of my head. Also a lot of it isn’t fleshed out as much as I would like. I do have one friend who is going to read it but I’d love thoughts and feedback from others.
If anyone is interested, shoot me a direct message!
As you guys know, I’m working on the first book in my lady pirate series. It’s called Phoenix’s Call: Phoenix is a captain without her ship. Angry and landlocked, she forms an alliance with Edmund, a cunning thief turned pirate, who offers her passage in exchange for half her hidden wealth. With her crew scattered, she must track them down in order to get her ship back and deliver justice to the man who stole her freedom.
Call introduces readers to the ladies of the Siren’s Song. I’m having a great time writing these lovely pirates and wanted to share some of what I’ve written.
Meet Phoenix, the captain.
Leaving her ship had been the hardest thing she ever had to do in her life. Tied with leaving the companions she had spent the last seven years sailing with.
Phoenix had chosen Port Royal because of it’s location and connections, but the authority had suddenly become stronger and the little seediness was being wiped away. It was sickening. She had nowhere else to go, and was forced to keep a low profile until the opportunity presented itself.
She had managed to get by with the coin she had stashed the last time she was there, but that was running low and she needed a long term plan. There wasn’t much work for a woman to do. Phoenix detested cleaning and housework. She wasn’t good with a needle, nor could she cook. Prostitution was a possibility, but she didn’t want to go back to that work full time unless she absolutely had to.
Which only left theft.
Phoenix awoke early that morning. For awhile she laid on her small bed, staring up at the wooden planks of her ceiling. She missed the rocking of her ship. Her tiny room in the workhouse was too still. Sometimes it was hard to go to sleep. Phoenix would toss and turn endlessly trying to get comfortable. She never slept soundly either.
Her room was disgustingly hot and she kicked off her blanket, stretching her naked body with a soft groan. She was wonderfully loose from her encounter the previous evening. In fact, her conquest was still fast asleep at her side, red curls in disarray.
Phoenix smiled and turned, curling her body around the sleeping woman. Her companion stirred, shifting into the touch.
“Good morning,” Phoenix said softly in her ear, hand trailing down the swell of the woman’s hip.
“Morning to you as well,” the woman grumbled.
Phoenix smiled, hand slipping between her thighs to stroke the sensitive flesh. “What were we talking about last night?” she questioned, full lips pressed to the pale shoulder in front of her.
The redhead chuckled, arching into Phoenix’s touch. “Yes, yes, your rent is forgiven,” her landlord said, turning onto her back to smile up at the dark-haired woman. She arched her back, freckled breasts bared enticingly. Her mouth brushed Phoenix’s. “Now, let’s talk about next month.”
