“hey, sorry - i know you’re closin’ soon, but this was the first place i saw. you guys serve coffee?”
this is my thinking face
nimona.
( ah, okay, not ignoring me, then. it's always gotta be a hit - or - miss with kids, doesn't it ... ?? )
teenagers are a particular class of the youths phoenix has trouble dealing with, it seems ... maybe he just has bad luck with the ones he runs across. maybe he's just got one of those faces teenagers don't know how to approach. then again, fair's fair, not a lot of teenagers want to cooperate with thirty - somethings they don't even know, especially ones involved with the law, & he has tangentially heard a thing or two about this kid & the ... group ... they're part of ...
ah.
( ... oh god, i look like a narc, don't i ?? ) why does it seem it was easier to get useful information when he was rocking the starving artist bum look than it ever has been in a suit ?? curse edgeworth & his stupid tailor — ... but maybe that's on phoenix for bringing his suit to what was supposed to be a vacation.
sigh. ❛ alright, would it sweeten the deal here if i said i'm turning a whole two blind eyes to any shenanigans not directly involved with what i'm looking into ?? ❜ surely he doesn't need to worry about this kid getting involved in a homicide case ( because what else would interrupt a wright holiday but a client he can't refuse ?? ) ... hm, best not jinx it by speaking that one out loud.
“ my comfort zone is the size of … that chair. ” ( miles & phoenix )
the good place s4.
❛ hey now, that might be a generous overestimation of the chair's capacity. ❜ the jab is purely lighthearted, but phoenix is aware of how close to the truth it hits. for as long as he's known edgeworth, the prosecutor has been a stickler for the understood & the known ; any new experience willfully had was had on the basis of evidence pointing towards a favorable result. how judicial of him.
it's endearing, really, & probably a hell of a lot smarter than whatever it is phoenix has been doing for the past ... anything less than " twenty years " feels disingenuous. & yet though his zone is larger, he can't deny the temptation to remain solely in its perimeter is tantalizing, especially in the exhausted light following seven awful, awful years ...
which is where phoenix has always been insanely glad for the unstoppable force that is trucy. ( thank god for overbearing daughters ... ) so it doesn't feel as hypocritical as it probably should do when he tries to pull edgeworth out of that metaphorical chair.
❛ 'sides, i believe you'll find the record will show you've always found the most fulfillment through being really uncomfortable first. ❜
*PHOENIX & WEISS. / @fractaele two word starters. / “explain yourself!” -
“I-I-I-I’M INNOCENT!”
hands are thrown up in defense, causing some of the coffee beans in his hand to spill on the ground. he turns around, recognizing the heiress before sighing in relief. “jesus, weiss, you scared the hell outa me! it’s too early to be yellin’ like this!”

@lunaetis / sc. (phoenix/asuna.)
“i’ll have you know, i totally know what i’m doing! sorta. maybe.”
he says this, but he’s still turned upside-down. flying was hard. he wasn’t used to games like this!
