Ryder was visiting home and he was relaxing on the couch, his head resting on his mom’s thigh. He didn’t know when she started it, but her hand was moving through his hair and after a few minutes of that, his eyes drifted shut and he fell asleep.
At least you're more adventurous than your father.

Rachel couldn't breathe. It was like someone had shoved a massive lump down her throat and it was all she could do not to choke on it. Her arms went around herself, hugging herself tight and she began to back away slowly. "N-no." She croaked. "No, you're lying!" Mom... Dad and Auntie Ro were saying something but she could barely hear anything over the roaring in her ears. "You're lying!!" She screamed as objects began to float into the air and start spinning around haphazardly. They tried to get closer to her but Rachel just backed further away, hands clenching her forearms so tight there would be bruises the next morning. The orbit was going so fast no one could get past it and Rachel fell to her knees, sobbing openly. "You're lying..."

Rachel picked at her shirt and kicked her feet as she listened to the soft murmur of the adults around her. Her mom and Dr. McCoy had been talking about something that required a lot of big words and serious faces. Not worried faces and Dad wasn't listening so it probably wasn't that important. But they had been talking for FOREVER. Pulling her legs up to her chest she yawned. Blinking she rubbed her eyes trying to perk back up. Rachel wasn't a little kid, she should be able to stay awake. Folding her arms and resting her chin on her knees she sighed. Out of the corner of her eye Rachel saw her mother shift on the couch arm coming to wrap around Rachel. Almost instinctively Rachel leaned into that half embrace, mom smelled like vanilla and peppermint. Fingers were in her hair, stroking it and Rachel yawned again. She felt like a cat. The fingers in her hair felt nice and she felt warm and comfortable. It didn't take long for Rachel's curled up form to tip over sideways and land in her mother's lap, fast asleep.

The boy spun around to the sound of footsteps, the confusion melting away as he grinned at the woman. “Redd!” he ran up to her and hugged her, “Don’t tell Slym, okay? I promise I was training! I didn’t mean to get lost. I was training to be big and strong just like you and Slym!” he looked around nervously at the scary world he found himself in. This wasn’t home, with all the tall buildings he wasn’t sure the sun could even reach him. He turned back to the woman with a slight frown, “Where are we?”
