Final Changes

I went back to my metaphor pages on the document and adjusted a few things in terms of the writing and the imagery for the final hand-in.

This included proofreading and adding a reference for the phone outline I used for the imagery to show that it was a phone UI.

Overall I am satisfied with this part of the document now.

Extended Version of Animation

In the original animation, I only had the first two menus so I felt that it was important I go back and do all three menus for the purpose of showcasing the full design.

Challenge 2 - Metaphor Changes

I adjusted this page slightly to include the different backgrounds I made earlier on because I included these images in my animations. I felt that not including these images and explaining their purpose would be unusual.

Since I included them, I moved the swiping through menus imagery up because I felt like it was important to include, and the image it replaced conveyed the same thing.

I moved the three menu designs to the previous page because I wanted it to still make sense.

Other Wallpapers

I question that was raised during my presentation was about backgrounds in terms of variety or people using their own backgrounds.

This made me realise that I wouldn't be able to just use one background for the whole design because people would either get bored or not like a wallpaper that is an option.

Using photography I have taken, I have made a variety of dynamic backgrounds that people can use for this.

Choosing what to Develop

After learning about the document layout and the limited page amount, I realised that I would need to scrap one developed idea that I had made.

This meant that I had to choose between my weather app metaphor or the flower blooming metaphor.

Metaphor:

The metaphor for this design felt much stronger compared to the flower for me as well - the flower felt more like nature and the preference-based UI didn't feel connected to the weather. This design felt inherently connected to the weather, and brought the experience of the weather into the user experience.

The weather app UI also felt it was more 'original' than the flower blooming idea - I felt that a lot of people would be and already have done something around that idea already. As well as that, the weather app UI has more things that I could develop whereas the flower would be much harder to develop.

I am a bit sad about having to scrap one, but it wouldn't be practical to keep designing it.

Different Times

This animation's purpose is to show one lock screen background being used dynamically at different times and at different weather conditions.

This is to give an idea of how the UI will change during the day in actual use.

More Animations

These animations showcase more of the dynamic background aspect of the UI design using 2 backgrounds of the Sky Tower (my own photos).

This UI design's main feature besides the weather app is the dynamic lock screen, which I wanted to showcase in some different ways. As the background would change with time and weather, I also wanted a few small details that would happen regardless of the weather or the time.

I did this to make the UI feel more 'alive', small details like that add an extra layer on top which makes it feel more natural.

Metaphor - Page 1

This is the second page for my metaphor in my project document for the final hand-in.

This page focused more on the development and fine-tuning of the design and how it connects deeper with the use of metaphor. I wanted to evolve the idea of the weather app metaphor specifically by adding the swiping menus into the design.

These elevated the design much further than the original in my opinion because it creates a really solid duality of function and aesthetic within the metaphor.
