Photo-etching, 2001
These are two prints made prior to starting on the City Lit course. It occurred to me that both the plates (lhs image created using a double plate and collage) and the material, including photographs (see below) used to create them could be combined with the phototransfer technique using wintergreen.
The rhs image is in fact made from a collage using a photocopy of the original photograph. This was done to create the space outside the window on lhs when printed. However, I prefer the inverted original as it has greater sense of depth (slant of building) & is a more dynamic image (compare it with the layered phototransfer below).

AVAILABLE AT MOTH ODDITIES Name: Megan Cline Age: 22 Location: Logan Square, Chicago, IL Day Job: Student by day, cocktail waitress by night What were your thoughts and reasoning for this piece?: These photo etches were explorations that helped me discover that I naturally gravitate towards the things in life that are insecure or fragile. As a result, a lot of my work deals with the different stages of life and the consequences of time.
What inspires you?: Pretty much anything that has a life cycle and is in the process of withering away, whether it is the paint chipping off of a fence, or wrinkling skin. How do you support local art and design?: I try to go to as many art fairs and local gallery openings as possible! Last Concert Attended: Coco Rosie Most Recent Get-Away: I went to Michigan for a two-week artist program called Ox Bow. I learned how to glass blow and befriended a giant snapping turtle named Samson. Favorite Local Hang-Outs: The Boiler Room for their pb&j special (pizza, beer & jameson) and their alcohol infused ice cream. Other Talents and Interests: I’m an expert at baking pie.
