these would have been killer photos if they were in focus 😭😭😭😭 do you know how HARD it is to catch a hummingbird in flight,,,, Especially when it doesn’t like hovering at all

This tiny baby is very blurry. I was only able to get some things in focus but not others.

Why? Because this baby with the face of a double-decker bus was too busy exploring and couldn’t give a hoot that I had a blog I wanted to show them off on.

But this tiny little jumping spider is on my blog anyway, because it took a lot of effort to even get the photos I could and I admired how it really didn’t seem to be all that bothered by me. I love that, they’re their own spider and they’re on a mission!

Not sure what type of jumping spider it was, but it was the least curious of all I’d encountered previously.

Photo Fails - January 2026

Taking pictures can be so freaking hard and a curated profile page always looks so intimidating. That's why I want to share my biggest fails of the month, each month, to keep up the silliness.

When it's just out of frame

These would've been such epic pictures... if only the birds would've actually been in them 😭 and the shutter speed a little faster...

Autofocus seeing ghosts...

I know the eye tracking of the R10 isn't as epic as in most other of the canons R series (they had to make it cheaper somehow) but sometimes it's truly ridiculous... like... it's right there...?

Slowpoke

I'm famously slow... during my construction someone just forgot to build in any sort of processing power... so when two birds are fighting I obviously miss it and just get the very last second of it

Animals being… animals

Shutter Speed

This one really hurt... I went out for multiple hours photographing birds, only to come home and check the pictures and realize that after photographing some horses I forgot to set the shutter speed back up to photograph the birds... resulting in most pictures being unusable.

Other awkward moments

I already talked about the woman asking me if everything was alright whilst I was laying on the floor trying to photograph some water birds. Which was awkward but mostly just sweet.

I now got a much more awkward story for you:

For the pictures of the robin sitting in the middle of the snowy road I crawled towards it in order to not scare it off. Well, some people taking a walk came up behind me and the man asked me if I was doing some kind of religious pilgrimage 💀

Oh thank you anon! I thought I was the only one! I find those man about town pics so uncomfortable to look at I scroll fast past them every time they pop up. The smiling one is just… I don’t even really want to say what that one makes me think. And he looks like a serial killer in the blueish sitting one. And they airbrushed him so much that you’re right, it’s like uncanny valley levels of creepy. Every time I see someone freaking out about the pics I wonder if we’re looking at the same photoshoot

I find the pictures beautiful but definitely over-retouched, what's weird is that other past photo shoots from this same magazine did not have this level of airbrushing so I wonder if maybe Jensen requested it?

behold. my one and only photo of a red-eyed vireo.... i hear these guys a lot around the place in the summertime but i've only seen them twice. One of those times i had access to my camera. so i zoomed in and. the camera wouldn't focus. and i got One (1) blurry photo, started to readjust so it would focus, and then it FUCKING RAN OUT OF BATTERY
