I’ve seen some traditional artists not like that their photos come out yellow due to house bulbs and the lack of natural light, so I wanted to share some info I learnt in photography class years ago.

The lighting in your house is probably tungsten lighting. Tungsten lighting produces a warm colour, usually yellow. Natural lighting on the other hand, produces more blue, cooler tones.

A simple way to make your photo less yellow due to tungsten lighting, is to edit your photo to be a bit more blue. If you’re on iphone, you can get this by moving the warmth section to the negatives. You may also need to play around with other editing options as well.

It may be best to wait for natural light, but try it out to see if you don’t mind the results. There’s also natural lights you can get for an ok price.

Hi, I need help because I'm an unintelligent human

I just got my first camera today (a DSLR) and I need help and tips for photography, can anyone please give tips? Because I literally know nothing and I feel so ignorant lmao

Supremely ticked off. I went to get the rest of my film from my last long exposure shoot developed yesterday. My mistake I went to the same place that gave me unsatisfactory results last time. When I got home and looked at the prints not only had the printed every single shot of one roll off center (they are reprinting them for free, thankfully the film wasn't cut wrong), but the other had what I only can call burn marks at every spool hole on the film, resulting in lines on every single print from that film. (Pictured below)

I was told that my film must be old or bad and that it was not their fault ("the machines fault"). Every roll I've used for these shoots was purchased at the same time and kept in the same place in my room and this was the only one that had this problem?? Am I wrong in thinking that it's not me? I'm just entirely irritated that these can't even be reprinted because it's the film not the prints.

If anyone has any insight on if this was actually my fuck up or not please message me or reply here, id really appreciate it.

Simply put, ISO is the function that changes how sensitive the camera is to light. A low ISO number such as a base ISO of 100 means the camera is less sensitive and a high number such as 3200 means it is extremely sensitive.

With ISO it is important to remember that you should always keep it as low as possible! This is because the higher you put your ISO up the more likely it is that your pictures will have ‘noise’ (almost like the digital version of film grain) covering them. 

In some situations such as a dimply lit indoor settings and night photography, it is necessary to have your camera set to a higher number to allow more light to the camera. It is a great idea however, to adjust your ISO last so that it is not at a higher number unnecessarily. Set your aperture and shutter speed, then have a look at what ISO number you need, if more light is needed this is when you should bump it up from the base 100.
