YO!!!

The struggle is REALLY REAL. I just got back from Chicago, but my memory card in my camera got corrupted. After shooting a TON of flicks...ARRGGHHH! I shoot with a FujiFilm S5000 which is old but I am broke and I love the camera. It does weird things with the xD card sometimes though. I thought I lost everything, but I found an *outstanding* program called TestDisk 7.1, by Christophe Grenier, which also has a photo recovery tool. My file names are all out of whack and it’s gonna be some puzzling them together, but I GOT MY PICS BACK!! Next few updates will be featuring graffiti and street art from the Pilsen, Logan Square, and Avondale neighborhoods along with some stuff shot from the L!

I had a minor life crisis yesterday (which happily I was able to fix).

I had a shoot yesterday and went home to put them on my computer. My computer said my card was corrupted and that I needed to repair it, which I did.

Only to lose all my photos. Cue panic here.

So, recovered the .CHK files, which are notoriously difficult to restore anything useful from as they are file fragments, not the whole thing. After awhile, it was pretty clear I wasn’t getting anywhere with the .CHK files and I was ready to resign myself to losing them forever. 

I decided to google one more time, and I managed to find a blog post someone had written with the exact same scenario as me and it recommended Photorec. SO downloaded that, and at first it started recovering these really small files (~9 MB) and I freaked out (my files were ~6,000MB). But after the thumbnails, it recovered all the actual files. Miraculously, I didn’t lose a single photo. So, Photorec, thanks for saving me.
