Tom Haugomat

An illustrator from paris that illustrates landscapes, cityscapes and random scenes of people in random places. He has both his personal works as well as commercial works on his Behance portfolio, and all of them reflect his personality and illustration style very strongly. 

While he has a couple of works that were made to be screen printed, even those that were not look beautiful with some applied texture that I imagine are what his works would look like if they were screen printed on some rough textured paper. I love his choice of colors, its shades and the way he does his shadows. 

Tom Haugomat has been a huge inspiration for me when it comes to illustration, even before I started screen printing. Now that I’ve had a go, my appreciation for his works have grown immensely.

A one week collaborative project about Gary. Fabricated from an extremely milked private joke. But wait!...'Who or what is Gary?' I hear you say to yourself. Here is our best attempt to describe what Gary has done not only in his career, but for the Music Industry too... He became active in the late 1970’s and has remained anonymous ever since. The illusive musician behind the musical scores of daytime and late night television. Focusing on quantity over quality, he brings his unique sound through multitracking to enhance our TV enjoyment. He is responsible for all the TV music you cannot put a name to. His signature cheese has graced the likes of Babestation, Price-Drop and in his earlier career Crystal Maze. If you can’t afford the copyright to a song or need a catchy jingle with all the bells and whistles, Gary is your man. The outcome takes the form of eight silkscreen postcard prints in an edition of 40.

This work I found fun and happy. The bright colours and cute illustrations make for a well composed body of work. The story behind the work makes for a more meaningful publication in my opinion.

Great set of work, the website extends the work and shows the colour process in a great interactive way. On the website more of the process is shown. The gifs included make for a set of work that works cohesively. The work has a  ‘old style’ feel to them but with a revamped edge to it all. The use of screen printing for this project I feel makes the aesthetics.

Rocks Crying Out By Zansky de Zaster

I’m always looking for ideas when in class and am always quite horrible at coming up with abstract pieces of art using the medium. This series by de Zaster is really beautiful but at the same time it feels quite accessible to me, a design student/wannabe amateur screenprinter.  It feels like something I could do and something I could experiment with in class. Or maybe not! Perhaps it looks easy from afar but when I come to trying it, I might just fail. I guess that’s the whole point of exploration and experimentation in the classes!

Minuit Fanzine By Ornella Pagliaruolo

Pagliarulo’s zine is something is an idea that I didn’t realise could work so well with my practice as a communication designer. By only using a medium like Screenprinting, to print her designs in a publlication, it’s really inspired me to try and marry the two creative practices of screenprinting and graphic design together. Being a designer that always uses digital printing to create polished and refined work, I think using screenprinting would force me to be more comfortable with the imperfections and mistakes that will happen throughout the process of making a print.

Artist - Dave Prosser (Moth Collective)

Dave Prosser is an animation director born in the UK. He’s one of the founders of the animation group Moth Collective. His work has an striking “ bold and playful design aesthetic” which he translates into his animations. 

I particularly admire his use of bold, harmonious and simple colours, his talent for composition, and the way he combines flat, 2D colour blocks with sketching indicating depth and volume.

I’m interested in how this piece was made, the colors transition is seamlessly perfect and the shapes are well executed. The texture on that piece of paper is also interesting.
