Summary:
If history is a cycle then maybe Phum will always be abandoned by the people he loves. If Phum will always be abandoned by the people he loves then maybe the people he loves are actually better off without him. If the people he loves are better off without him then maybe he should simply leave them alone. If history is a cycle then maybe Peem will never be attractive in the eyes of others. If Peem will never be attractive in the eyes of others then maybe he is destined for unrequited love. If Peem is destined for unrequited love then maybe he never should have hoped that someone like Phum could reciprocate his feelings. or, a fic where Phum cancels the slave deal early and decides to disappear from Peem’s life, feeding right into Peem’s insecurities

phum and peem with their plushie children (or, phumpeem's younger child suffering more than jesus) - eps 1-16
i will never be over the fact that phum's line of thinking is literally "while i am a problem, i should not exist". and like yeah, of course it is, because the second he - AS A FIVE YEAR OLD BABY BOY - became a problem for his parents, they sent him away and didn't even keep in contact with him. he stopped existing to them for years. deliberately. so of course when he falls for peem and then feels like a problem again, he thinks he is doing the right thing by disappearing completely and without warning. he thinks he is taking care of peem by not existing in his life when his existence could potentially be an inconvenience. i think his parents should be publicly executed for this alone.
i come back to this every time, but the fact that phum acts far more normal than peem after their first kiss never fails to amuse me. apparently, poor socialisation, zero social skills, deep loneliness, an utter lack of self-belief, and potential autism have nothing on the simple but devastating insecurity of a 20 year old who thinks he isn't attractive or (romantically) likeable.

guide to boosting your boyfriend's confidence by professional loverboy phum (or every time phum calls peem cute) - ep 5 / ep 6 / ep 8 / ep 12 -> ep 15
one thing we don't talk about enough in the context of peem's insecurities (specifically about how desirable he is romantically/aesthetically because he didn't date anyone as a teen and presumably never had anyone confess their feelings to him) is that he canonically immediately thinks that phum is gorgeous (literally episode two laments about him being an asshole when he is so fucking pretty) so phum constantly calling him cute and just being attracted to him in general must have caused a certain amount of confusion due to (aside from all the other reasons) the fact that peem assumes he is not particularly likeable in-that-way, yet here is this beautiful guy claiming he likes him in-that-way.
