Home. That word brought nostalgia and longing to Amber. It was a word filled with memories of a much simpler time: a time filled with freshly made pancakes on Sunday mornings, rustling newspapers, and the teasing of an older sister. Amber sighed, eyes glazed over from a trip down memory lane. She shook her head; that was the past. It’s not like she could exactly relive it. Yes, she missed her home, her family and friends, but they were safer now that she was on Jangmi Island. They were far away from her barely controllable powers, and although she was lonely, it was worth it all. They were away from her monstrosity, and she would do anything to protect them, even isolating herself. The days on Jangmi Island weren’t particularly lonely, but she felt herself missing the little house she called home more often than not. Most of the time, she wondered if they were doing okay without her, if they missed her.
It was a quiet day at Cafe Legato, peaceful and calming with the light music she had turned on to fill the almost silent gap of noise. A few clinks and clatters of mugs and cups echoed throughout the room, but those were still few and far in between. The lunch rush had come and gone, and now it was only filled with a few customers who seemingly had nowhere else to be: mostly college students or people just looking for a place to wean wi-fi off of. Her trained eyes scanned the small crowd of people, looking for any cups that needed a refill. Seeing Raven with an empty mug was already carrying her over to him, standing before him with the jug of hot coffee. As usual, his wings filled the expanse of the area surrounding him, and she couldn’t help but marvel at how beautiful they were. They were definitely magnificent, big and commanding attention.
“Hey there,” She said, careful to not disturb his peace or thoughts, smiling softly, "Sure is quiet in here at this time of day, huh?”
The silence settled in between the both of them for a few moments as her eyes glazed over before she shook her head, clearing her thoughts again. “Do you want a refill?” She lifted the jug she was holding, tilting her head to the side and awaiting his answer.
