Imagine a whumper who collects people with rare conditions like some people collect misprinted and limited edition coins.
Black bone disease - one arm has been amputated with the bones preserved and on display in front of their cage so visitors can appreciate the condition.
Golden or purple irises. Professional photos of them in a display.
Anormal organ production. Someone happens to have been born with several livers, so whumper installs a ‘window’ so you can see them from the outside.
I’ll stop there before the whumpers in my head try to get insensitive with some conditions, but do you see the potential here? I love the idea of collecting rare humans. Not in a ‘freak show’ way - but in scientific fascination and reverence. Meeting someone on the street with a rare condition and lighting up like they just found a double-stamped steel penny on the sidewalk.
