Tipping Game | Kana & Maya
@islanderkana
Being a waitress meant lots of things: standing on your feet, always having a smile, and doing your best to serve the customers, just to name a few. But all these were just ingredients. The milk and eggs and butter for the delicious cake known as—
The hustle.
Now, don’t get Maya wrong. She LOVED her job. It meant meeting people and getting to serve them delicious food and drinks. Nothing brought her more satisfaction than seeing the face of a person who just had their favorite meal. And? If things like rent, cute shoes, and milkshakes were free, she would definitely still be happy to work at Moonlight Café. But, as things now stood, they weren’t free, and that meant one thing.
Working for tips, tips, tips.
Usually being at this business for so long meant being able to spot those big tippers from a mile away. Maya could practically smell the smoke from the cash burning a hole in their pockets. So when a couple came in that night, a fancy man with a lady, OBVIOUSLY a first date (which meant spending to impress), she knew she totally had this in the bag. After all, who could resist the cute smile of a waitress, here to brighten their experience and make it sweeter than the dessert they would definitely be sharing by the end of the evening?
Maya turned to grab two menus, then turned back around to greet them and lead them to their seats—
Only to see none of other than Kana, whisking them away. His smile, his hair that always did that handsome swoop-thing, his glistening muscles…
It was all absolutely despicable. Kana, always in the background, poaching her best customers with his perfect biceps and abs. That couple? They were mice, and Maya was the cheese meant to lure them into her trap. But no. She had it all wrong. Maya was the mouse, and she just had her cheese stolen from right under her nose.
“Cheater…” Maya mumbled when Kana finally seated them and returned to the back. She held out the menus to him, giving them a slight tug of resistance before letting him have them.
“I saw them first and you know it.”
