Kitten Around | Sonja & Maya
@strawberrypriestess
Eyes. Some yellow, some green, some blue. Some with slits down the irises, some with pupils so big Maya swore she could fall into them any second. And every time she passed the KitTea Café, they just… stared at her. Calling to her. Luring her in. Sirens, beckoning. Who could resist?!
“I’m… sorry…” Maya said a silent prayer to her wallet, begging, please, don’t let her spend the last of her Gs here… She needed things, like clothes, and ferry passes, and FOOD--
And then then her vision was filled with paws, pink noses, and she swore there were clouds and petals floating in the air, too. Maya clapped her hands to her cheeks. Her mouth parted with awe. And soon, her eyes were alright with a glossy sheen.
Cats. Cats everywhere. She would scream if it weren’t for the fact that it would scare them all away. Instead, Maya stood still, letting the sound of soft mewls and purrs lull her into comfort and sweet, fuzzy joy. Lighting could strike her down at this very moment and she would die happy. Who needed all that other stuff?!
“Ah... H-Hey little guy!” Was this what it felt like to be chosen? A little black and white cat approached her slowly, tail up, sniffing her shoes. Maya bent down and stuck out her fingers, letting the friendly feline feel her out on its own terms.
“Heh, you remind me of cookies and cream. What’s your name?” Luckily, there was a collar around the cat’s neck to answer her question. “Rosie,” Maya said, reading it out loud. “Well, it’s really nice to meet you, Rosie! Even though you don’t really look like a Rosie at all.” She grinned as the cat rubbed its face against her palm, whiskers tickling.
“See, when I think of Rosie, I think of red! Or pink! Something like…” Maya looked around the room, only to meet eyes with a young woman standing just a few feet away.
“Like you! You look like a Rosie!” Pink hair. Perfect.

Tipping Game | Kana & Maya
@islanderkana
Being a waitress meant lots of things: standing on your feet, always having a smile, and doing your best to serve the customers, just to name a few. But all these were just ingredients. The milk and eggs and butter for the delicious cake known as—
The hustle.
Now, don’t get Maya wrong. She LOVED her job. It meant meeting people and getting to serve them delicious food and drinks. Nothing brought her more satisfaction than seeing the face of a person who just had their favorite meal. And? If things like rent, cute shoes, and milkshakes were free, she would definitely still be happy to work at Moonlight Café. But, as things now stood, they weren’t free, and that meant one thing.
Working for tips, tips, tips.
Usually being at this business for so long meant being able to spot those big tippers from a mile away. Maya could practically smell the smoke from the cash burning a hole in their pockets. So when a couple came in that night, a fancy man with a lady, OBVIOUSLY a first date (which meant spending to impress), she knew she totally had this in the bag. After all, who could resist the cute smile of a waitress, here to brighten their experience and make it sweeter than the dessert they would definitely be sharing by the end of the evening?
Maya turned to grab two menus, then turned back around to greet them and lead them to their seats—
Only to see none of other than Kana, whisking them away. His smile, his hair that always did that handsome swoop-thing, his glistening muscles…
It was all absolutely despicable. Kana, always in the background, poaching her best customers with his perfect biceps and abs. That couple? They were mice, and Maya was the cheese meant to lure them into her trap. But no. She had it all wrong. Maya was the mouse, and she just had her cheese stolen from right under her nose.
“Cheater…” Maya mumbled when Kana finally seated them and returned to the back. She held out the menus to him, giving them a slight tug of resistance before letting him have them.
“I saw them first and you know it.”
Moved In | Komari & Maya
@sombersonata
Lucky couldn’t even begin to describe how Maya felt when the prospect of a new roommate fell in her lap. Sure, the Shade Apartments provided a roof over her head, but if she had the choice? She’d much rather live in a place that had air conditioning and heating rather than broken pipes. Plus, her new roomie, Komari, seemed super sweet! The perfect companion she could rope into watching cooking shows with, rather than doing the exact same thing all by her lonesome. (Cooking shows were just better enjoyed with other people. It was a scientific fact!)
After weeks of prepping, going back and forth between each apartment, and moving small and big furniture, the whole process finally culminated in placing the finishing touch on the oven handle in the kitchen. A hand-knit dishcloth her grandmother made before she left. Maya smiled as she held the fabric, her fingertips running over the bump of each stitch. It was mostly decorative, of course. She couldn’t bring herself to actually use it for dishes. But, it did come in handy when opening and closing the oven; it kept her palms from getting too hot. In a way, it was like her family was here with her, still watching out for her while she was cooking. Taking a deep breath through her nose, Maya smiled and draped the cloth over the handle.
There. Now this place was home.
She didn’t have much time to soak in the feeling, though. The sound of the front door slamming alerted her to the fact that Komari arrived, and, perking up, Maya shook her head and practically skipped into the living room to greet her.
“Hey, Komari!” she sang. “Guess who’s officially moved in?” Maya bounded onto the couch and flopped amongst the cushions. She spread out her legs and arms in a showy manner, pointing her toes and doing jazz-hands with her open palms.
“It’s me! I finally unpacked the last box!”
Sweet Reunion | Kathy & Maya
@kathyonthesea
The Mistral Guild center. What an amazing place, right in the middle of the ocean, no less! Maya stared at the glossy, colorful shops in awe. If someone just covered her eyes and brought her here, she wouldn’t imagine for a second that just beneath them were the rolling waves of the sea. It seemed more like a shopping mall than a guild! Of course, as with any place with shops and businesses, Maya determined its quality by one thing and one thing only.
The food. And, seeing as she’d be meeting her friend here, that just meant that Maya had the treat of buying and trying double.
A cone of strawberry ice cream in one hand and a cone of coconut ice cream in the other, Maya kept her eyes peeled for the long, blonde hair of Kathy. She had always been an easy person to spot in a crowd. Even without her stunning beauty, Kathy just had… presence. She could wield the attention and hearts of several people more easily than most could wield just one conversation. Heck, the only thing Maya could “wield” on most days was a fork and a cup of instant noodles! Maybe Kathy could give her some tips…
“Oh, Kathy!” Maya called out when she finally saw her. Bounding up to her friend with the coconut ice cream outstretched, Maya offered a grin and hug. Mmm… Kathy always did smell like the sea and sun.
“How are you? Are you hungry? I got some ice cream as a snack!”
Founding Celebration Dance - Maya’s Attire
Her grandmother’s voice was already in her head -- It’s too cold for that top! She’ll get sick! She’ll catch phenomena! But was her grandmother here? Nope! And that meant the freedom to feel whatever sun, wind, and chills came her way. Maya smiled at herself in the mirror as she applied the finishing touches: a coating of gloss over her lips that caught the light and shined along with her headpiece. Now, Maya always tried to be humble, but even she had to admit... She looked pretty hecking good. “Don’t melt the ice cream, hot stuff.”
Winking at her reflection, she completed the motion with finger snaps and a grin. All she needed to do now was master the art of sparkling on command, and she’d be a total heartbreaker. (Not that she wanted to break anyone’s heart... You know, on second thought, maybe that was a power out of her range, much more suited for ladies in dramas and love stories.) She glanced at the clock on the wall, letting out a gasp. Shoot! Wasting any more time would make her miss the ferry for sure! Heading out, Maya grabbed her essentials, then did once last scan of the room to make sure the lights were out, the door was locked... Her gaze landed on a cardigan, folded over the back of a chair. ... Minutes later she was running down the docks, cheeks flushed. The captain was making last call, and Maya stepped onto the boat, just in time by a hair, but chest heaving. She leaned over the edge of the railing, catching her breath... or trying to. Over her arm was her folded cardigan, the one she brought from her apartment, and from home.
Just in case.

A Pinch of Magic | Gale & Maya
@stedfaststars
Magic existed in all kinds of forms. Sometimes it was waking up in the morning to your favorite breakfast. Other times it was walking down the street and seeing a stranger’s smile. But today, Maya needed magic just a little less sentimental and a little more concrete to help with her… situation. And luckily? Living on Arcadia was a good start when on the quest for practical spells.
The Sorcery Emporium was both the first and last stop for many people in need of witchcraftery. Maya knew it; she even passed by the storefront a couple of times while running errands. Sure, she never went in, but she figured she had a pretty good idea of what was beyond the strung-up chimes decorating the entrance. Probably plenty of things like… pickled eyeballs, or beetle toes. You know. Spooky-ooky stuff. She had the chance to peek through the window and confirm her suspicions once, though she passed on the opportunity. Maya wasn’t sure if after lunch was the right moment to come face-to-face with a shrunken head.
…Welp! No time like the present. Taking a deep breath, Maya turned the brass knob and stepped inside. It took a second for her eyes to adjust to the lowlight after walking in from the early afternoon, but the scent hit her immediately. Cinnamon and sage. Not too different from the kind of stuff you’d find in a kitchen. Not different at all, actually. Huh. She wandered further, not noticing the creak of the door as it slowly closed behind her. Her gaze trailed over shelves stacked with bottles and scrolls, all filled with… who knows what! Love spells, hexes, even incantations that could turn glass into gold, according to the stories! Maya picked up a random vile, eagerly reading over the elegant scrawl. This little guy, small but potent, was a serum that had the incredible ability to--
Grow back thinning hair.
Hm.
Maybe she should ask for help.
“Um, excuse me,” Maya said, setting down the vile and walking up to the pale-haired man behind the counter. She almost didn’t see him at first, with his dark clothing and lowered eyes. Even in the quiet of the shop, he was as silent as a shadow. At least he didn’t look too scary. A friendly smile touched her lips as she folded her hands in front of her.
“I’m looking for uh…” Her voice wavered slightly. It didn’t occur to her that she might have to say it out loud. “A potion that would make food taste good?” Specific. And Maya hadn’t ever heard of that kind of thing before… But it had to exist! What was the point of having gold or a head full of hair if you couldn’t even eat yummy meals?! “Like, say you burned some cookies, or maybe your chicken is too dry… Something you could sprinkle on to fix it.”

Cookies | Aurelia & Maya
gun-nun:
Aurelia really didn’t have much business to be out and about in these neck of the woods, but sometimes…she liked walking home the long way. It’s more scenic, and the nun just appreciates the still of the silence. Spring was slowly making its way over, by the way the little flowers blossomed and bloomed on the trees and bushes. And by the way the wind made the plants dance…her concentration was lost when she heard a voice that matched the season.
“Hm?” She turns her head curiously. How kind of her to offer. “Oh…sure.” Aurelia walked over towards the stand, and notices there’s homemade goods. They look like an fun color, and honestly the woman doesn’t see the harm of trying one. So she does, without skipping a beat. Crunchy. A bit on the saltier side, but the woman didn’t mind at all. Goddess it pays off to have an iron gut. “….How much?”
Maya watched as the woman bit into the cookie, eyes glued to her expression. No frowns. No looks of disgust. No confusion as to what exactly she put into her mouth. In fact, her face remained curiously blank. Was... that a good thing? On the one hand Maya was glad that she didn’t seem to hate it, but on the other, she hoped her cooking would evoke some sort of emotion...
“...How much?”
She blinked, nearly missing the question. How much what? Salt she put in? Time she left it in the oven? Usually those were the questions her grandmother asked with a snappy, exasperated tone. But that wasn’t the case here. Maya stared at her for a good ten seconds before she realized--
“Oh!” she exclaimed out loud. The woman was asking how much they cost! Wait, that meant...
She wanted to buy them.
Maya’s jaw went slack for a moment. Disbelief flooded her mind. Was this real? Was this a dream? She lifted her hand and pinched her arm just to make sure. No, she was awake. This was happening. Maya Clementine, who spent all her life fantasizing about becoming a chef, was about to sell her dish to a stranger for the very first time. A grin so wide it nearly hurt spread across her mouth, and rounded cheeks blossomed with a joyful blush. Happiness sprouted from every pore like flowers, until she was positively blooming like a garden.
“That’ll be 100g for three cookies!” she announced, maybe a little too loudly. But she couldn’t help it! A young woman’s first time was always a special moment.
Starbright | Frey & Maya
@dearestfrey
Whenever life around her seemed like too much (too many expectations, too many disappointments, too many mistakes), Maya found that the best solution was to look up. The sky, with how big it was, always made her problems feel small. It always had a different personality to discover. And when the too muches became too many, she would just stare at it for a while, uncovering its character for the day with her gaze.
Sometimes it would have its three-in-the-afternoon personality: clear blue, with bright clouds liked whipped cream. Sometimes it would have its morning-rain personality: all grey and white and wet. Maya’s favorite, however, was its clear-night personality. That’s when she could see the stars peeking through the dark, like bright jewels sewn in onto black velvet. They seemed so close, Maya thought she could reach out and pick them right out of the sky.
Of course, that was impossible.
But perhaps it was that very impossibility that drove her to visit the planetarium in the first place. To feel a little nearer. A little more intimate. A little less like the impossible was untouchable.
“Woah...” The word escaped in breathless awe as Maya walked inside. It didn’t take long for the ceiling to catch her attention. She craned her neck back, short wisps of hair falling behind her like a curtain, eyes drinking in the constellations and planets like they were endless pools, catching all that shine and sparkle and reflecting it right back. Is that really what was up there the whole time, invisible?! Footstep were approaching. Someone was standing next to her, she knew, but Maya couldn’t glance away for a moment. “Look at all that!” she said instead. “There’s like, a thousand wishes up there!”
Two Sweet Peas in a Pod | Laney & Maya
Round Trip to Arcadia [-2,000g] @wanderingwhiimsy New Total: 2,000g
@apiescatch
The sun shone bright in the Arcadian sky. Maya took a deep breath. It might have just been a ferry ride away, but the air smelled different here. Sweeter. Fresher. A familiar taste of summer and camping trips. Of burnt marshmallows and salty sea water. Of late night giggling and tracing constellations with fingertips.
All those memories with Laney were closer than ever as Maya walked to their meeting spot. Of course, it’s not like the family didn’t see each other during holidays and other important events. But how long has it been since it was just the two of them, sharing secrets and making a mess in the kitchen? For most of their lives they were the closest thing Maya could imagine to sisters. But at some point, growing older meant putting a halt to family vacations. There was work, and responsibilities, and the timing never lined up.
It seemed natural in the moment, but looking back, Maya saw how she put a part of herself to sleep when she stopped visiting Laney. She shook her head. Today, nap time was over! The Maya that loved running up hills and causing trouble with her cousin was yawning and stretching, and awake!
Up ahead, familiar blonde hair came into view.
“Laney!” Maya’s pace quickened toward her until she was in a full-on sprint. Within seconds the distance between them closed. Maya jumped forward and threw her arms around Laney, nearly knocking both of them to the ground. She squeezed tight, pressing her face cheek-to-cheek, and let out a loud giggle.
“I missed you so much!”
Cookies | Aurelia & Maya
@gun-nun
Being a young woman, there were many things that Maya wanted. Cute clothes, fun adventures, and most importantly, LOTS of delicious meals. And what did all those desires have in common?
They cost money.
Maya flopped onto her stomach, her feet hanging off the end of her bed as she opened up her purse. Guh! After her first month of living on her own, her wallet was as empty as her stomach. Why did take-out from all the yummy places have to be so expensive?! She’ll barely be able to afford rent at this point! Truly tragic. But, wallowing around at home just wasn’t Maya’s style. What could she do outside of her job that could earn her some extra pocket cash?
“Something that people would want to buy...” Maya spoke this out loud, rolling onto her back. She watched the ceiling fan above her spin in around and around.
…And around.
…Round.
Like cookies!
In one motion Maya shot up, her entire face aglow with an idea. Less than two hours later she was outside her apartment, a little sign hung over her head.
COOKIES FOR SALE!
The perfect afternoon treat.
Maya drummed her fingers on the table, waiting for anyone to stop by. But it seemed like one glance at the snacks made people walk faster rather than slower. Ugh! That was so unfair! Sure, they were a little darker than what you would find in a bakery… They weren’t equally sized, or shaped, and even she couldn’t tell the difference between the chocolate chips and the oatmeal anymore… But that’s just because they were homemade! You couldn’t expect factory perfection from something that was put together with loving, human hands.
Hm. Looks like she’d have to be a bit more… aggressive bold.
“Excuse me!” Maya leaned forward, waving down the next woman who happened to pass by. She put on her biggest smile, the one as warm and sweet as the cookies coming fresh out of the oven.
“Would you like a free sample~?”
