Update on new money pit. Took the stock rims off and replaced them with the PIAA Racing Spoke F off my old Q that has been a shed ornament for 2 years. Put the Top Secret CV PRO R back on that. Now that stockies are off car will see if they can be brought back to life. The centre caps certainly can. 5th pic shows difference 10 minutes with some Purple metal polish made.
Fitted my new old wheels. 17x8+30 and 17x9+35 PIAA Racing Spoke F. Forged wheels sold in Japan around 1992-1993 for 120,000 yen each in these sizes which were the biggest they made. Very top end rims. The most expensive Volk Racing road wheel at the time was only around 80,000 yen. Suspect very few were sold as i haven't been able to find pics of any on cars. Acceptable weights for wheels that old. The 9" are about 10 kilos and the 8" around 9 kilos. Room behind the spokes for some bigger brakes. Tyres fitted are 245/45/17 Kumho Ecsta LE Sport
Bought myself some period correct wheels for the Q45. Made in the early nineties(i found them in my wheel and parts catalogues from 91, 92) these are Uber Rare(because they were Uber expensive when new. 120,000¥ each these sizes) PIAA Racing Spoke F to suit a Z32 which means perfect fitment for a Q45. 17x8+30 and 17x9+35 forged. Unsure if forged alloy. At those prices they may be forged magnesium. Just to illustrate how expensive they were the most expensive Volk Racing road wheel at the time was only 80,000¥ each for an 18". I had been watching these for years but at the time i wanted bigger lower offset wheels (and couldn't find any info on these either). Now i am over having wheels and tyres sticking out the guards and scrubbing every time i hit a big bump. I have yet to find a pic of these on a car. Maybe i have an old PIAA advert tucked away in one of my mags/catalogues from that era but it hasn't appeared yet. Feel free to share if anyone does have pics or has some of these.
What do people think of these? I have been watching them for years. Thinking now is the right time to acquire them to put on my Q45. Who(other than I) knows what they are? Anyone have pics of a set on a car? Made in the early nineties.
PIAA Super Racing Wheel from 1987. Forged body and centre cap. Looks very stock but be some nice weight savings. Probably rarer than unicorns now.
