It's been a while since we posted, and a lot has happened in that time - a lot being exactly one thing - the loss of a most beloved grandmother who's been cheering Aron on from the moment he was born. It's hard to say goodbye to such a lifelong presence, but we've been returning to our new normal. Maybe this song captures some of the ups and downs of all this. In fact, after playing it, Aron said he felt like he'd been in a dream and was going to wake up and see his grandma again. No dream, but it is a consolation that one can get lost in music and imagine. The piece is #Sonatina by #Kuhlau.
We wish everyone happy holidays with this song, #Prelude in C major by Bach, a 300 year old piece that is absolutely timeless. It travels through the entire spectrum of life's emotions - thoughtful, uplifting, melancholic, grand - floating through the universe, leaving us feeling so grateful that music exists.
And Aron is back! With a brand new old piano! He found this one scouting the countryside with his grandfather, in a town called Sankt Olof. We love the sound of this instrument, which was actually built in Malmö, where we live, back in 1941. And now it's back to its birthplace :) The song he's playing is Arabesque Sentimentale by William Gillock.
Aron plays Arabesque by Burgmüller. Happy Halloween!
Ah, #AstridLindgren, what a genius she was! Her books so daring and full of humour, with a perspective straightout of a child's heart. Funny, sometimes outrageous, and always unafraid of the storms of life. And not just her books, but her songs for #Pippi and the others are incredible! Whimsical and clever, joyous and profound at the same time. A treasure in #Swedish. I wish her songs were translated into a hundred languages as her books are. But alas... Anyway, this tune is called #KalleTeodor, a mystical song remembering a sailor lost at sea (she never did shy away from the darkness of life). Music composed by marvellous #GeorgRiedel. Enjoy!
Aron plays Hall of the Mountain King by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. It was one of the first songs he learned on piano this spring. I love how it goes from dark and rumbling to light and playful. Delightful.
