There’s a reason Bellamy picked Diamond City to settle down in. Bunker Hill would have been a decent choice, too, but Louis had already staked a claim, and it’s too small, besides. Sure, it has all the benefits that come from being a caravan hub, but there aren’t many live-in residents. He’d stick out more there. Diamond City has a different kind of crowd to blend into, one that’s stationary, cliquish, and paranoid, but it still sees a lot of trade, still sees a lot of people coming and going. Integration took time, but it always takes time. Bellamy, despite all appearances otherwise, is very good at being patient.
... even if being patient means being very bored, sometimes.
Slowly convincing Diamond City he can be one of them was one thing. That just took the right story, arranging himself to be in the right places at the right times, and waiting. Nine years later, and he’s a familiar, and more importantly, accepted face around the stadium. He lives here now, even has his own shitty little shack in the Lower Stands, paying rent from scavving, trading, and... well. Playing the rumor mill.
Which, right now, means being patient. A little birdy told him he’ll be getting a visit soon, and from somebody with a wealth of Bellamy’s favorite kind of payment. Somebody who he’s really hoping he can convince to part with some of it in exchange for what she wants.
He’ll just have to see how this goes. Even if he doesn’t get what he’d like out of it, he’s still so very curious.
... even if it means he’s bored as shit right now, waiting around at Vadim’s for her to show up.
Bellamy drums his hands on his table, following the song on the radio. It means his arms are visible for once, sticking out from under his many layers of clothing which otherwise turn his body into an abstract, lumpy shape. It’s what passes as dressing casual for him, and has for the past decade. If it was the kind of day where he was particularly restless, or paranoid, or itching to be covered from head to foot, he’d be waiting outside, but it isn’t. He can be without a gas mask for today. Besides, this is an important enough opportunity he doesn’t want to risk running her off or making her suspicious by covering his face.
And he’s got plenty of practice in pushing aside his eccentricities for the sake of the job.
(Oops. He thought of it as “the job” again. That’s not quite accurate any more, huh?)
God, he’s fucking bored. He gets up to wander over to the bar and order some food. Eating will at least give his hands something to do.
