Summary: Andy's thoughts before asking Sharon out to a romantic dinner at Serve.
As per usual, here are the AO3 and FFN links to this story.
A/N: So, this fic was inspired by the Justin Bieber song (yes I know) called Daisies, which I thought aptly described Sharon and Andy’s situation pre-dating and leading up to Andy asking her to Serve. Hope y’all enjoy this small contribution to the Shandy fandom. I know it’s not much, but it’s what I’m able to offer at the moment. Hoping to continue writing for these two again soon. Honestly, this one has been sitting in my drafts half done for about a month or so now and I just now got around to finishing writing it. Just goes to show how chaotic & crazy life can be sometimes. Anyways, enjoy!
Picking Daisies
Ever since Rusty had made that comment about him and Sharon dating several times a month, the notion had been driving him crazy for weeks now.
Were they dating or not?
Sure they went out to dinner and movies together quite often, but did that constitute dating?
Didn’t just friends do that too?
Did she like him more than just a friend?
For weeks now, she’d been ignoring his after hours texts or starting to reply and then stopping, or, leaving him on read, as the kids liked to say these days.
What was he doing wrong?
Was his directness scaring her off?
Cause that’s the last thing he wanted to happen.
If he was wrong and they were in fact, just friends, she had to know by now that he’d respect her decision and boundaries.
Maybe she just needed some time.
Time to think about what she wanted and how a possible romantic relationship would impact her life.
Sharon had a tendency to be analytical about nearly everything, from what to do on a case to what to eat for dinner, to what kind of movie she was in the mood to see.
He appreciated that about her.
Where he dove headfirst and rushed into things, she was quite measured in her decisions.
He got why this was a big possibility for her to consider.
Andy had to admit something to himself though.
It was all starting to drive him a little crazy.
Not knowing.
Not even talking about it.
Acting like the concept or possibility didn’t exist between them.
Even after other people in their lives had pointed out that there was something there between them.
His head was swimming with possibilities of both being friends and something more.
He often found himself counting down the days until he’d see her again, away from the team and other prying eyes.
He wanted her to himself.
Was that a bit selfish?
Sure.
Did he regret thinking it?
Not for a second.
Especially when he knew he wasn’t crazy and that there was something palpable between him and Sharon.
That others saw it too.
So, why was she all of a sudden avoiding him at every turn and every time he walked into the squadroom or her office, she'd pretend to or was actually talking to Hobbs in hushed voices.
Were they talking about him?
Was he making a fool of himself following Sharon around like a lost puppy?
Was that what her and Hobbs were always so hush hush about whenever he saw them together?
He finally decided he was gonna shoot his shot, as the youngsters liked to say.
He’d found the perfect romantic restaurant to ask her to join him at.
He’d made the reservation for tomorrow, which while a bit premature, showed he was serious about his intentions with her.
He’d ask her tonight after their case would likely be closed and everyone else had gone home.
Because truth be told, he wanted to eventually be skin to skin with her.
He wanted her in his bed.
Not in a lustful way necessarily, though the attraction & chemistry was definitely there.
He knew any kind of romantic relationship with Sharon would be taken slowly and approached with cautiousness on her part.
He wasn’t under any allusions that there was a particular parallel between him and Jack and that this would obviously make her a bit careful in bringing him into her life in a romantic sense.
If that was even what she wanted.
God, the not knowing had been the worst part of all of this.
Finally though, tonight, all his questions would be put to rest.
One way or another.
Either way, things would work out for the best though, right?
They could move forward or move on from this palpable attraction between them that Rusty and Nicole had not so subtly pointed out.
He made a point to file into the back of his mind to talk to them about that because he had a feeling that this was what was freaking Sharon out.
To say he’d been in his feelings the last few weeks would be the understatement of the year.
One way or another though, the truth of the matter would be revealed soon enough.

That night, after their case had finally been closed, Andy finally gathered up the courage to ask Sharon the question he’d been dying to know the answer to for weeks now.
He’d invited her to dinner at Serve.
Admittedly, he might not have led with it being the most romantic restaurant in Los Angeles, but doubts be damned, he wanted his intentions to be clear to her.
He was asking her on an actual date.
Not just going to the movies and dinner before or afterwards, not a casual outing, and not a family or team outing.
An honest to god date.
He wanted to be clear with what he was asking her so that there wouldn’t be room for any misunderstandings.
So, he waited with bated breath for her response.
When she’d said fine, he halfway released a breath he hadn’t known he’d been holding.
She’d said fine.
Did that mean a begrudging yes?
Did it mean okay?
Did it mean an enthusiastic yes?
Their signals were getting crossed now.
He looked at her face for confirmation, but it gave away virtually nothing except for the faintest hint of a smile.
Then, she’d asked where Hobbs was right afterwards.
Again.
Though, as she walked away from him to go and find Hobbs, he had noticed a little pep in her step and while the way she acted had been a little strange, it was nevertheless endearing to him.
They were going on an honest to god date tomorrow at Serve.
Now, it was Andy’s turn to smile as Sharon went in search of Hobbs.
His question and her answer no doubt the subject.
Maybe that’s what they had been huddled together talking about these past few weeks.
At least if Sharon’s ghost of a smile was anything to go by.
A/N: If you got this far, thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing (or if you’re new here (hi!) to read my fic. Comments & kudos or follows would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you all for your support for this silly little hobby I have of making two idiots in love fall for each other over and over again.
Dakota was excited to have Daisy come live with them. They had set up a room for her, but had made sure to not go wild, because they wanted her to make it her own. They glanced at their watch, realizing she it was almost the end of her shift, and they just couldn’t help themselves. They wanted to see her. To surprise her.
They made their way over, smirking as they headed inside. They grabbed themselves a drink, as they scanned the room for that familiar fiery hair, feeling the excitement just growing inside their chest.
