There's something I never understood about the claim of Sally being a "stalker" when she doesn't really come off as one. At least not too me. Shy yes, wanting to get away from her creator while trying to fine a way to help the one she loves yes, but not a "stalker." What are your thoughts on this topic?
I remember hearing this awhile ago and laughing because obviously it’s a joke, right? But I found people genuinely believing Sally was nothing more than Jack’s stalker and how it made their relationship “creepy” and….well, I don’t really understand how one can come to that conclusion.
Let’s see the definition of a “stalker”:
“a person who harasses or persecutes someone with unwanted and obsessive attention.“
Uh, yeah, that’s NOT Sally.
Jack & Sally’s relationship is healthy for many, many reasons, one of them being how much Sally respects Jack’s space and himself as a person.
i.e., In the scene where Jack’s admirers are fawning over him, reaching out wanting to touch him, literally CORNERING him to the walls, it’s clear that, while he’s being polite, he doesn’t want them to touch him, judging by the way he’s holding up his hands as a signal for them not to get closer to him. But later on, we see that Jack trusts Sally to fit him for his Santa Claus outfit - which requires close contact that he specially entrusted her with. She doesn’t take advantage of it like anyone else would, and respects his boundaries when he shows he’s hurt.
A lot of people make this assumption because of the way Sally always seems to “follow” Jack around, which is ridiculous considering:
Sally never followed Jack into the graveyard before his Lament. In fact, she was there before him.
Jack was the one who summoned Sally to come and get her task for Christmas.
Sally went to the graveyard first(again) at the end of the film; Jack FOLLOWED her there.
The only time Sally went to him on her own was when she delivered that gift basket. And even if she slept outside his house, it was more likely because she was trying to escape the Doctor.
She left to celebrate Halloween, go to the Town Meeting, and to send Jack off to the human world, which shouldn’t be considered stalking because they were all social gatherings.
And most importantly, She doesn’t obsess or harass him at ALL. She was his close friend, and treated him like a person. She doesn’t just see him for his title or accomplishments like everyone else does - she understands him, and never makes Jack uncomfortable despite having a crush on him. He clearly likes her company, too, otherwise he wouldn’t have asked for her or followed her all the way to the Spiral Hill.
