Re: Dean calling Cas “Angel”
It’s even better when Cas grumpily responds “hello human”
Ahhhh Anon you are galaxy brained I adore that !!!!
Dean has started using a new nickname for him, ever since Jack pulled him out of the Empty and restored his powers.... Castiel isn't sure how he feels about it.
Dean says it with affection in his voice and a soft smile on his lips, and it feels like something sacred and wondrous. But the name itself....
Castiel will say, "Hello, Dean" (because it's his favourite thing to say) and Dean will reply, "Hey, Angel."
Is it really a nickname if it's just a descriptor of your species?
They're staying in a motel while working a case, just the two of them, and Dean walks out of the steamy bathroom and says, "Shower's free, Angel." (Because he knows Castiel enjoys taking a shower even if he doesn't need to.)
It's late at night in the Bunker and Castiel can sense Dean's unrest at the edge of his mind. He makes a cup of coffee (the way Dean taught him) and waits. Eventually Dean shuffles into the kitchen and nods at him as he says, "Thanks, Angel." (If their fingers touched a little longer than necessary as Castiel passed the cup over, neither of them mention it.)
Now that his wings have been restored, he can fly directly into the Impala. There are less monsters, so there are less hunts, and these days Dean enjoys driving around just for the fun of it. When Castiel flies into the seat next to Dean he doesn't even flinch, just smiles and says, "Where to, Angel?" (And he knows Dean would drive him anywhere, but Castiel always says, "Anywhere you go.")
It's a normal morning when Castiel enters the kitchen one day. He doesn't even get chance for his customary greeting before Dean, cooking his breakfast at the stove, says, "Hey, Angel." This time Castiel frowns, his eyebrows draw together, and he huffs, "Hello, Human." The resulting laughter from Dean is loud and joyous, infectious, and takes over his whole body as he tilts his head back and laughs with complete abandon. His soul flares a bright and brilliant gold. "Yeah, guess I had that one coming," Dean says. (Castiel is stunned into silence at being the cause of such a beautiful reaction.)
Castiel finally decides he likes the nickname when they're in Dean's bed and it's being whispered into his neck between kisses. "Angel," Dean says lowly, and kisses him again, "you self-sacrificing idiot Angel. You've always had me. You can have me forever. You've got me."
Castiel can't think beyond the taste of Dean's kisses and the feel of his skin, and Dean's words that want to bring tears to his eyes, but he manages to rumble, "I love you. I love you. I have been and always will be your Angel, Dean." (Something Castiel never thought he'd be be able to say.)
When Dean gasps out, "I love you, Angel," and Castiel has to cover his eyes from the flare of Grace it causes, he thinks that it's the best thing anyone has ever called him.
