The world knows the beat of every body that falls to its ground.
Knows the swell of a corpse left to sit under its sun. That so many of those bodies have been black, the world knows too. Winter came on the day they left that boy outside to bleed. Winter came and the world wouldn't let it leave because its warm days had been used for slaughter. Its sun asked to kiss flesh that child's mother had been pulled away from reaching.

its shows your weakness
why does it make me any less of a woman if i cry
better yet in public
why does it make me less of a person
why is it a sign of weakness
to embrace the emotions
i have inside me
should i let it bubble and boil until i explode
until i physically and mentally break
or would that be just my time of the month
why cant i be angry and not be called crazy
why cant i be happy and not be called girly
why cant i be bossy and not be called bitchy
why cant i express the emotions inside me without it being an issue for society
because initially i was taught to
shut up
sit up
and look pretty
and always be happy
like a damn dolly

i have been through and will be through quite enough
to not enjoy the liberty of
expressing myself freely
without having to be called weak
so don't ask me to not cry in public

Day 7: Black?
Perhaps it is not universal as all that
to be black
but more so to be hip hop
or
"all natural"
or
rough and tough
or
glorified kinky curl
or
independent diva
or
gangsta
....
etcetera.
Perhaps what is more universal is to be
publicly confused,
abused and desensitized
to the laughter of the rest of the world
as they pretend to have respect for you
when all they want to do is "adopt" you,
be politically correct
as they continue to neglect
the majority
that will forever remain the universal minority
