Heading to New York on Thursday
Message me if you’re going to the concert to see Jhene Aiko :D
Primus, dinosaur jr @ jbl live at pier 97 7/30/15
This audience was 98% primus fans, 2% dino j fans. Best pit ive seen in months. Havent had to wipe other dudes sweat off me in a while. Pretty sure i was one of few people there who had never seen primus before. There were so many primus shirts–i dont think there were ever fewer than two in sight. And so many “primus sucks” chants of praise.
Les was the best bass player i think ive seen and could be one of the sweatiest people on the planet right now. Wore jacket, big hat or pig mask, full enemble the whole time. Amazing bass and drum solos (drummer has enormous kit). Les played what seemed like electric double bass and then something i dont think ive seen before: tall stringed instrumed he played w bow but also bent the top few inches of to manipulate the sound. Hard to see bc everything was backlit by full screen animations. Also had two giant inflatable mushrooms on stage.
This was a show!!! Way exceeded my expectations (jesus, ive been working in education way too long). About 830 to 10, 3 song encore. Ive never listened to that much primus but they played the songs i recognized and lots of ones that made many dudes have the best night of their year.
still have yet to get properly fucked by dinosaur jr but it isnt their fault. It was loud but youre never gonna get that oppressively loud experience outdoors. They were playing “start chopping” when i walked up but hardly anyone was there. (I, like others on twitter, asked for set times but jbl live said they dont give them out to the public. I, like others were unclear on whether doors were at 5 or 6. Live nation could do better, but i dont think they give a fuck.)
Missed ghost of a saber tooth tiger bc i am an idiot and took the b train the wrong way out of habit
Thanks, music geeks AND donyc for the free tix!
