Mascaras en Accion #3 (Editorial Mina, 7/26/91)
Arena Mexico Report! 12/19/2017
Mistico, Blue Panther & Valiente vs Mr. Niebla, Okumura & Johnny Idol
Who’s who?
Mistico in all white, Valiente in dark blue pants/mask and Blue Panther the only maskless tecnico.
Mr. Niebla in brown pants and the only masked rudo, Okumura and Idol are dressed similarly, but Okumura is the older asian fellow.
How’s the match?
Good, though I’m a little disappointed the foreign legion didn’t fair better. Initially on this show they were going to challenge for the trios titles so a win here would have made that match coming down the line more likely instead of being scrapped as it looks like it was. They may be too young of a team to dethrone Skyteam anyways, but a match even one where they lost would have helped boost their stature.
Sam Adonis vs Volador Jr., One on One, 2/3 falls
Who’s who?
Adonis is wearing his airbrushed tights as always.
Volador Jr. in in an orange shirt throughout this match.
How’s the match?
Very good, perhaps the best match I’ve seen out of Adonis. He has never been a workrate guy, but this match showed that with time perhaps he could be. This was very impressive and Volador Jr... well continues to be in great matches. He has had lots of practice this year and Friday has him in yet another singles match vs Caristico... a rematch of the Leyenda de Plata finals. On the night of the Leyenda de Azul cibernetico... so perhaps the winner of that will face one of the two in a feud as well.
One of perhaps the best things about this match is the booking. With Adonis recently part of a new trios, Volador Jr. being current trios champions with Mistico/Valiente and being buddy buddy with Rush, there was literally a half dozen options for interference and CMLL didn’t use any. If this were CMLL, I think we would have seen ALL of them come out. I commend letting these two have a match instead of weighing it down with outside starpower... like CMLL did with 83rd’s main event.
Rush, Pierroth & Terrible vs Ultimo Guerrero, Negro Casas & Barbaro Cavernario
Who’s who?
Rush and Pierroth are dressed similar like always and Terrible has long black hair and goatee.
Ultimo in green/black, Barbaro dressed as a caveman and Negro Casas in his plain black gear like always.
How’s the match?
Very good! This is a great continuation of Rush/Ultimo story. thecubsfan has said that it seems they are building to a Rush/Ultimo match for the Fantasticamania. That seems pretty plausible as they continue to run with the feud instead of just ending it last week. It’s a big match that would obviously sell tickets and both men have enough fanfare that is could even be a CMLL Anniversary Main Event at this point though a match in Japan seems nice too perhaps for Ultimo’s belt?
It’s funny that last night, I applauded CMLL’s use of Idol vs Adonis. Here... we have Terrible teaming with ingobernables less than 24 hours after he warred vs them in Puebla. Though it’s not that big of a deal... it does seem like some resentment would be harbored on one side or the other.
A pretty fun main event with Rush’s win over Ultimo for the 3rd being a great way to end this match after the few weeks of Ultimo/Rush trading wins. Rush cheating with his dad to win here makes all the sense in the world and trades on their previous encounters.
