I feel bad for characters like nightwing and red hood and captain america and thor who are oversexualized - or even just pigeonholed in general - to the point where it takes focus away from the intricacies of the characters. It’s kinda tragic to see and, while I’m sure it happens to real people too, it ignores so much of their carefully curated backstories.
I mean, nightwing might be a charismatic performer but he’s also a SA victim multiple times over. If it were me, I’d probably be uncomfortable having that kind of attention and commentary - idk, comments like that kinda feel like people view the object of their desire as less of a person and would be more likely to try to take advantage of it.
Yes, nightwing has a skintight suit, but he used to not wear pants to maintain a larger range of motion so I imagine the spandex is a similar situation. Yes, nightwing is a bit of a flirt, but he’s someone who thrives within a crowd and he’s used to performing and trying to elicit a response. Yes, he’s had a lot of partners, but so what? So have plenty of other characters and he’s pretty established as a loyal partner - his notable instance of “cheating” was when somebody shapeshifted to look like his current partner and his real partner got upset that he couldn’t tell the difference (This is uninformed consent, which doesn’t actually count as consent, making it assault). Yeah, a lot of people find nightwing attractive, but objectifying him so much just kinda icks me out.
Point is, I’m glad they’re not real people but I feel sorry for the actors, voice actors, artists, etc. as well as the original creators of the characters for having to deal with all the characters pigeonholed by fan attraction.
