I think the lesson you taught is way better. I’m sure the students will learn persistence elsewhere. Whereas social justice tends to be lacking.

Is this the one that new movie is being made about? Just out of curiosity what were the “themes” you were supposed to get out of it/discuss? I am unfamiliar with the story so I don’t know what the themes are supposed to be.
Our school "focus" this year is persistence. It's a dystopian story about a bunch of teenage boys that all live in a giant maze with no memory of the outside world. One new boy shows up every 30 days and they are constantly looking for a way out. Then one day, an unconscious girl shows up (she doesn't wake up until 61% of the way through the book according to my kindle) and changes everything. The persistence comes in with their determination to escape. It's also the first book in a trilogy. I won't be reading the others.
We were looking for a book that would interest students and dystopian is popular right now. Since it's also being made into a movie but hasn't been release yet, students can't watching instead of reading but have more interest (after all, dylan o'brien!)

There is a writer called clotpoleofthelord and every time I read it as chipotle of the lord. It took me a very long time to realize that it isn't chipotle.
Ahahaha...dude, the first time I saw their name, I read it as 'plothole' and had to take a second to look again. I also was pronouncing Lemonoclefox's name as Lemon Oclefox in my head for an embarrassingly long time.
