2008 Pilade "Cascina Ballarin," Babera D'Alba
I really, really enjoyed this wine. Probably the best Barbera that I've ever had (I can't remember any one close to this memorable, so that's probably a true statement). It had an earthiness to it that was evened out by a light acidity. We drank this with roasted salmon coated in mustard and lemon. I don't usually complain about wine pairings, but I wish I had saved this bottle for something meatier. We bought this from Nicholas Roberts in Darien, which is batting close to 1.000 right now.
