The two waves of Bohmian Mechanics
I was looking for more info on this topic, and found an article: http://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1742-6596/701/1/012003/meta which tried to present the ideas of Pilot Wave theory in an understandable way. Now, I couldn't follow the math, being unfamiliar with the conventional symbolism of the math of quantum mechanics, but I could mostly follow the discussion. And if I read this right, one of the features of Bohmian Mechanics is to be able to distinguish a pilot wave (a "Conditional Wave Function" or CWF) for a local beable (that is, "thing that is" -- I had to look it up) from the universal ("big", non-local) wave function, where apparently in orthodox quantum mechanics you only use wave functions for small systems, without having one which encapsulates everything outside the system.
The paper's author discussed the possibility of reformulating Bohmian Mechanics as the product of a multitude of CWFs for each particle and eliminating the universal wave. I have to wonder though if the non-local universal wave function couldn't really be a feature worth fully embracing. Perhaps the universal wave conceals in its abstraction not only the pilot waves of all other particles, but also some omnipresent non-particle beable(s). Perhaps there are universal realities which play a hand in the development of the universe without necessarily being in the universe.
After all, it is said that in Him we live and move and have our being. Perhaps this is a hint at the mechanism of God's action on the universe. Not to look for a "god of the gaps", but when you consider these ideas extrapolated out to include the whole universe, this theory leaves plenty of room for some universal beable to play a part, and from inside the system we may not even be able to distinguish between a multitude of universal beables as they would all be lumped together in the universal wave. But how cool would it be to discover a number of distinct universal realities which play a part in the evolution of every system?
