“I rather enjoy poetry. It’s most of what I read.”
Of Coffee and Tutors

The small shop was bustling today as students got their much needed doses of caffeine to get through the rest of their day. Rey watched a few flit past before looking down at her own half-finished mug. Vile stuff, coffee was. But, it did the trick of keeping her awake. She was becoming better at drinking it without her face contorting in revulsion, though, as she came by the shop quite often. The quiet background noise was pleasant, and the girl found it easy enough to study here.
But, that wasn’t the only reason she came here. Hazel eyes flicked to the young man behind the counter, allowing only a second or two to regard him; the real reason Rey suffered through the bitter drink that was only manageable with too much sugar. Blowing a sigh through her nose, she gazed back down at the notes on her datapad.
Engine failure. Aside from the mandatory Meditation, Piloting and Force lessons, at the Jedi Academy she had also chosen to study in Light Saber dueling and mechanics, the latter of which she was revising now. None of it was new to her, so soon she switched topics to X-Wings: A Basic Guide, downed the rest of her coffee and rose to get into the small line for her third.
"Look at me. Just look at me and stay awake. Can you do that?"
Rey couldn’t register what the voice had said to her, or even more who it had been. She could only focus on the constant ringing in her ears that muddled all other sounds around her, caused by whatever had happened to her head. She couldn’t remember if she had hit it on something or if something had hit her head instead, the only thing she could tell was that it hurt a lot. Rey kept her eyes shut to stop the world from spinning, and if she did manage to pry them open the image was murky and dizzying as if she was being shaken around. Her eyes couldn’t focus on anything, but they caught the outline of a figure looking over her, and a part of her scrambled mind guessed that’s where the voice came from.
Finally Rey could understand the man’s words, and his voice, recognizing him to be Poe. She reached her hand forward to find him, but the silhouette in her vision kept moving and swerving like the rest of the scenery and she felt nothing. He told her to stay awake and it was as if right then that her body became aware of how tired it was. Her mind was telling her to fall asleep, to close her eyes again so that the insufferable ringing would go away. “‘m fine.” Rey slurred out, closing her eyes to stop the spinning as she laid back on the ground under her. She could feel her consciousness slipping and she almost welcomed it if it would make her feel any less dizzy.

Poe had his arms nestled securely under her knees and around her waist, keeping her against him.
“I’m very sorry, Miss, but I can’t do that. I’m under strict orders from the General herself. I am to escort you to the med bay for a complete check-up.”
He gave her a dazzling smile and started to walk in the corridors.
“And you wouldn’t make me fail me mission, would you Rey?”
“Poe, I can walk there just fine.”
She protesting with a sigh. Though she knew that that was an argument that she wasn’t going to win. Honestly, she didn’t see any need to go to the Med Bay. All her life she’d treated her own injuries. She was going to be fine.
“Really, this is all very unnecessary.”
