Hiya. Wanted to hear your thoughts about something I have always kept in the back of my mind. The interesting part to me of the Will/Sonny/Paul triangle is that I actually find the dynamics plausible. I was never a WilSon fan foremost; I was a Will fan. I always thought their relationship was sweet but I also always felt that Sonny came across as strangely-self-interested-but-not-quite-in-an-obnoxious way. The feeling was cemented with the tin can resolution. 1/3
actoring in the intro to Paul, I think he wanted what he couldn’t get from his first love—an out relationship—so he handled his and Will’s relationship to get that desired outcome. I like to head cannon that he’s a lot like his mom in the sense that he has good intentions but goes about it in unwittingly harmful ways. It makes him a lot more interesting to my mind. I actually want him to be a little bit of an arse about the divorce just to get him to face some of his own faults. 2/3
What are your thoughts? P.S. I do think that Paul and Sonny make more sense but I’m very intrigued by Will and Paul, although I wish Paul wasn’t his sorta, kinda uncle although I will think of it as a parallel between Marlena/John. 3/3
I agree that the dynamics for the trio are super plausible. I think that comes from the fact that, at one point in time, they’ve all been together in one form or another, so the chemistry works for me. I never felt that Sonny was self interested (though the argument can be made for him being very self interested rn but that imo has a lot to do with Will’s miraculous return and his emotions bubbling over and I can’t really blame him for that tbh). I do worry that they’ll make Sonny the bad guy in the divorce proceedings and it’ll alienate the fandom more than they already are. We should be rooting for the first out gay character on Days, and yet so many people (understandably) dislike his characterization. I like it, though I do miss the Sonny we got the first time Will was around because he was soft and warm. It’s a soap though so I’m not completely surprised by such a big change in who he is as a person. I do miss his old wardrobe tho ffs bring back some of his better casual clothes Days!!
Anyways! Yes, I think he needs to eventually be forced to look at his own actions and the way he’s been behaving. He’s been so awful to Paul lately (blaming him for Will kissing Paul is a strange conclusion for Sonny to jump to, but that reinforces my belief that his judgment is so clouded by Will’s sudden return that it’s all he can focus on), that at some point push has to come to shove and Sonny’s gotta realize that it’s not been okay for him to react in that way towards people he supposedly loves. For the fan’s sake, for the character’s sake, and for my sanity lol. It’s gonna take a while, though. I think we need to be prepared for this storyline to take a while to get through. Days has a nasty habit of slowing timelines down and making some storylines go at a snail’s pace, and even with the great Ron Carlivati at the helm, I’m not so sure that’s going to change much.
But I am excited! For the storyline, to see where they take it and how we get there. That’s what I love the most about soaps, is the journey. I may not always like or agree with everything, but it’s such a fascinating genre to watch and talk about :)
