Restaurants like Starbucks utilize this feature because you have the option of managing your Starbucks Card by reloading from the app on your smartphone. Other smartphone applications like LevelUp use the same QR Code feature. There are others that utilize Pin-Based Debit or Credit feature to quicken the sale, and now with EMV (EuroPay Mastercard Visa) coming to the US, this will quicken the sale as well without hackers trying to steal your private information. EMV is a contactless card payment solution that supports "card-not-present" transactions. This will be fully implemented by Mastercard & Visa by October 2015.
