One can simply say it is Genetics, in the genes...
Or one can admire the Design by Nature in this Flowers of Pinda sp.
Here, you can see that only those petals at the outer periphery - marked with red dots - are larger, the remaining four ones inside - shown with black moons - are all small.
And these petals form a cup-like shape. When any insect visits the flowers, it appears as if the insect is sitting in the cup.
While this plant in flowering can be commonly seen at some places during monsoon, though seen so many times by me, it always attracts me by its beautiful design.
And then, you can also notice that tiny insect (imagine how small it must be) sitting in the middle.
