Xin Taiwan Galleria (新台灣館) is an oversea brand that is new to me. I don’t remember seeing them prior to this year’s mooncake fair. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Singapore’s founding, Fong Deng has specially launched a limited-edition commemorative gift box - Fong Den SG60 Mooncake (丰丹月餅). The design features a gold foil art style portraying iconic Singapore landmarks such as Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, and the Merlion, transforming them into a dazzling piece of art sealed within an exquisitely crafted box. The box included Pine Nut Tea Pastry (松子茶酥), Salted Egg Pastry (蛋黃酥) and Moon Q Pastry (幸福Q饼).

Fong Den Bite-Sized Pineapple Pastry (丰丹凤梨酥) comes with four flavours inside the box: Original Dual-Filling Pineapple (原味双陷凤梨), Matcha Pineapple Yuzu (抹茶凤梨柚子), Amber Oolong Pineapple Apple Infused (琥珀乌龙凤梨苹果) and Beetroot Pineapple Lychee (甜菜凤梨荔枝). Each pastry is handmade with premium ingredients and offers a perfect balance of sweet, tart, and buttery notes in every bite.

A must buy when in taiwan~~ super yumzz

Brother’s company sent him on a training trip to Taiwan. Before coming home, he went to Chia Te Bakery (佳德糕饼) to buy us this popular Pineapple Pastry 🍍 (凤梨酥). It is individually packed in a box of 6s and make great souvenir. The square shaped pastry is firm and filled with tangy sweet pineapple jam. Comparing this to our Chinese New Year pineapple tarts (凤梨挞), our pastry is more buttery, soft and the filling moister. Frankly speaking, I think our version tasted much better but then, we only get to eat it once a year as practically no one make this pastry outside of the holiday period.

A sugar loaded afternoon snack of Iced Gem Biscuits and Gula Melaka Pineapple Pastry (凤梨酥). Thank goodness, my Teh Siew Dai ☕ (tea with milk but less sweet) kind of equaled it out. 😋 Am pretty sure many of us aunties and uncles grew up eating this nostalgic biscuit 🍪 snack. Even as I am typing out this post, my mind flashed back to the many times I just bit off the colourful sugary twisted tops, leaving the biscuits behind. 😁

Had always thought this Iced Gem Biscuits or Biskut Ais Jem as they are known by our Malay friends is a product of Singapore, if not Malaysia. Voilà, they were first made by Huntley and Palmer of Reading, Britain 🇬🇧 in the 1850s. Like many inventions, they were an accidental discovery as these biscuits 🍪 came out of the oven shrunk; smaller than their intended size. The makers then started selling them as Gems and subsequently added the icing bit in 1910.

For more than 70 years, Thye Moh Chan (泰茂栈) had been making their now famous traditional tau sar piah (bean paste pastry). The company almost made its exit from history in 2011 by closing its doors but was revived by the BreadTalk Group a year later. They were having a promotion a few months ago with the buy 1 get 1 free plus free S$5 mooncake voucher. So I got two boxes of the Gula Melaka Pineapple Pastry (椰糖旺梨饼) at S$12.80 for both. The snack itself is decent eat with a nice gula melaka flavour and is not too sweet pineapple 🍍 filling. But the pastry was not buttery enough for both me and my sis.
