#skincaretipoftheday .... Blackheads- everyone’s got the, right? Well, not exactly… There’s a common (and very popular) misconception that ‘stuff’ in our pores means we’re fighting blackheads. The truth is, blackheads are much less common than you think. Sure, everyone has the potential to get blackheads, but there’s a strong (much more likely) chance that what you’re seeing are called sebaceous filaments. Wondering what’s the difference? Here’s a brief description of the two. Blackheads: A combination of oil, dead skin cells and debris that have hardened into a dark coloured ‘plug’. They’re the ones that, when extracted, almost ‘ooze’ out in a wormlike plug. Sebaceous Filaments: They’re pin-like dots that commonly showing up on your nose and T-zone. These are the stars of ads promoting pore/nose strips and they are definitely not blackheads! They’re also much smaller than a blackhead and when extracted, produce a pale-yellow substance. Want extra help figuring out which is which AND what to do about both?? If you’re on our mailing list, watch for a special weekend newsletter, or watch the blog - we’ll post the full article there in the near future. In the meantime, what are the top ways to deal? We expand on these ideas in the newsletter but the cliff notes version is: hydration, exfoliation (especially with fruit enzymes - our pineapple facial scrub, shown here, exfoliates on two levels - physical ... as in surface level of the skin, as well as enzyme ... as in breaking down gunk INSIDE our pores), no at home extractions (risk of scaring!!), focus internally on hormonal balancing (to reduce the amount of sticky sebum that clogs up pores), and don’t fear healing plant based oils (they provide your skin with the building blocks it needs to be healthy). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Happy Friday everyone! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #skincaretips101 #skincaretips #skincare101 #naturalskincare #greenbeauty #ecobeauty #botanicalbeauty #greenskincare #holisticskincare #handmadeskincare #ecoskincare #factfriday #funfactsfriday #funfacts #simpleskincare #battysbath #pineapplescrub #crueltyfreebeauty #lovetheskinimin #keepingitsimple #pureskincare #toxicfreebeauty #plasticfreeliving #mothernatureknowsbest
