╰┈➤ end of summer pool party; the pool party at the end of summer marks the closing of the public pool each year. it's your last chance to don your cutest swimsuits and drink martinis as you lounge and watch the hotties play water volleyball. there will be free refreshments and, just like every year, mayor whitman will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone. no, he will not make you a tofu dog, so please don't ask.
╰┈➤ st. luke mini mall opening; the end of summer brings us a brand new location to explore - the st. luke mini mall! chock full of fun stores like rue21, claire's, aeropostale, pandora, and so many more, we're sure that you can find something you'll love there. run don't walk to the opening weekend starting august 7th, and make sure you take advantage of all those fun back to school sales!
╰┈➤ battle of the bands; the first ever pinehaven battle of the bands will take place at lake whittier on august 8th and 15th! the first round will see which five bands make it through to the final, and the second round will crown a winner. many will enter, one will win. with a mix of local and seattle bands, it's sure to be one hell of a show. get your tickets now because you're not going to want to miss it!
╰┈➤ perseid meteor shower; gather in centennial park to witness the meteor shower that will pass overnight on august 12th-13th. if the skies are clear and the moon is bright, you can witness hundreds of meteors soar through the sky every hour! blankets and refreshments - namely coffee from steep stop - will be provided, but bring your own pillows. this would be a lovely romantic date for those so inclined!
╰┈➤ book release party; pinehaven's very own sachin arya is releasing a new book and we're all very excited to read it, so make sure you're at the book nook for the release party! even if you don't like to read, get your butts in the seats to show support for a beloved local! if you don't, you'll have to deal with ziva.
╰┈➤ back to school bake sale; the kiddos return to school at the learning center on august 22nd. all proceeds made at the bake sale will go toward fitting the school with needed repairs or items (such as new computers for the media classroom), and toward kids in need who may not be able to afford supplies. please note that you can also donate to the school, and the learning center is taking donated backpacks that are already filled with the needed list of supplies this year! buy a cupcake - it's for a great cause.

who: mateo & sophia @oatfoams where: perseid meteor shower
he walked through the park after what felt like a lifetime away, hands stuffed in his denim pockets as he made his way around the tree line. his amber eyes trailed over the various couples, families, and singles who all came to make their wishes. memories of him making wishes on this night trickled through to the front of his mind before the dam repressing his emotions broke. the first wish he made after his mother passed, the one he made after moving in with his godparents, the numerous wishes he made with- he cut those particular memories off before they could continue. the air around him seemed to buzz as a painful sense of nostalgia attempted to seize his heart, trying to break the ice that had formed around the muscle. 'it was a mistake to come here.' his breath quickened, and his fingers twitched in his pockets. why had he come back to pinehaven? there wasn't really anything for him here. not after he had burned the one bridge that ever truly tethered him to the town. deep down, he knew that she was the reason. loath as he was to admit it. as he was about to turn to go, his eyes snagged on something familiar. three figures, laying down almost on top of one another on their makeshift pallet. before he could even really see them, he could hear the familiar cacophony of their harmonic laughter. their joy over something he knew what must have been an inside bit struck him like an arrow to the chest. of course they would be here. they had always made sure to do anything fun the town had to offer together. the dae sisters. guilt-ridden relief coursed through his veins seeing them all together again, knowing that at one point in time he had been a wedge in the trio.
he began to walk in their direction, moving without thinking like a sailor drawn in a siren's song. lost in the current of their loud, overlapping conversation, he didn't notice that he was only five couples away from them until he saw who must've been one of their partners plopped down on the blanket near them, causing a pause in their chaos. he stilled, watching carefully to see who claimed the tattooed suitor. there was a brief flash of surprise when evie leaned over and pressed a quick 'hello' kiss to the man's lips before starting up whatever the girls had been discussing once again. he stood there watching them for a few minutes, fascinated as he always had been to see what a family could be like. he hadn't attempted to move again until the figure that had his back to him stood up, saying something he couldn't quite make out to the group. it wasn't that he didn't recognize the way she looked; it was just that he still couldn't register that after four years, she was in front of him again. so when she turned around, looking more herself than she ever had before, his breath hitched in his throat before exhaling, "phia?" the name had tumbled out of his mouth before he could stop himself. now, he was just staring at her, mouth agape for a few moments before he could stutter something else out. "it- uh- it's, it uh... has been a while, huh?"

CLOSED EVENT STARTER FOR : EVIE + WOO-JIN WHERE : ST. LUKE MINI MALL
the buzzing overhead lamps of st. luke’s mini mall bathed the grand opening in a bright, glossy radiance as streams of curious townspeople spilled through the double glass doors. late afternoon sunbeams slanted through the overhead glass panels, glinting off freshly buffed linoleum and illuminating the playful chaos around each newly minted storefront. evie glided along the main passageway, a canvas tote slung beneath her elbow, its collection of plastic trinkets and metal keychains clinking together like tiny wind chimes with every stride. her eyes darted from one dazzling storefront to the next, soaking in the parade of saturated hues, the syrupy cloud of synthetic vanilla wafting from a nearby beauty shop, and the distant, cheerful babble of teenagers sifting through clothing racks.
she had been talking a mile a minute, painting a elaborate case for why attending opening day was a stroke of absolute genius, as if she even still needed to continue bolstering her plea considering woo-jin was already here with her. even still, she spun around on her heel to face him while walking backward down the concourse, "….and because, it’s an event! it's the official farewell to summer! pinehaven finally has a claire's again, and i need to inspect their sticker inventory before every teenager in town buys out the good sheets. besides, you needed to get out of the house, wooie."
her thick soled platform sneakers bounced with every step as she twirled back around, matching his stride. "and fine, maybe i am also on a mission for cheap hair clips and notebooks i don't need. but i could argue glitter pens and butterfly claw clips are essential broadcasting equipment," she reasoned, exaggerating a slow, grave nod. "now come on, rue21 is having a back to school clearance, and i saw a sweater over there that has your name written all over it." her fingers hooked into the fabric of his jacket sleeve, towing him toward the storefront without waiting for an answer.
Event starter for Sugar & Riot Where: Battle of the Bands @pasdedeuxs
Sugar was buzzing withe excitement and the two and half energy drinks she'd already gone through. She'd barely slept a wink from all the anticipation of today, and likely wouldn't sleep for another three days because of all the caffeine. Whatever! Today was about good music, seeing friends, and putting very serious thought into ranking the bands when it came time to voting. Sugar had just had to sprint across the lake in order to use the bathroom before the next set started, and was now making back to her spot when she saw a familiar face. "Riot!" She greeted, throwing her arms up. "How cool is this?" Sugar asked, bouncing on her toes in front of one of her favorite Spin Cycle employees. "That last band was good but, like, they're from Seattle and we've got bands from here playing... I've got, like, proximity bias, I think." In truth, so far the local bands had been better! Though, it might have everything to do with the fact she'd witnessed Ziggy swooning over one of them earlier.
who : penelope & jia. where : book release party. @monochromctic
jia had been looking for a reason to get out of the house that wasn't just work. battle of the bands wasn't her thing, nor was the mini mall opening. not while it was infested with teenagers, at least. sachin's book release party sounded like her cup of tea. after helping temperance with her recent styling escapade, jia was yearning to spend time with tempy's other half. she'd asked penny if she was going & that they could meet there if she was -- to her delight, penny agreed. the book nook would a wonderful balance of extroverted & serene enough for the two to spend some time together.
a glass of spirits found its way into her palm while she browsed the few tables that were set up for the event. she picked up a book from the quests of amrik series, turning it over in her hands. " have you read any of it ? can't say that I have, but what are book release parties for if not to try something new. " her shoulders lifted & fell in a shrug. fantasy wasn't normally what she drifted to, but the book's imagery was enticing. " how are things, penelope ? I hear the bake sale is coming up. "
who : neasa & malachi. where : back to school bake sale. @arabesq
it'd been a while since the cousins had hung out, despite having settled in pinehaven for the last five years. neasa busy with acting & malachi with his job at swept away & music duo with shay. thus being the driving motivation for her to drag fitz along with her to the bake sale. totally not his thing -- which nessie knew, & was also a deciding factor in why she brought them along. she found it all rather amusing; and why not snag a brownie why slightly tormenting your younger cousin. she'd also made the promise to buy them anything if he went. plus, it was for a good cause after all.
she was perusing the cupcakes, internally debated if she preferred a red velvet to a funfetti. " so your music thing is going pretty well, aye ? the gemini twins or whatever you call yourself. " she'd caught a little bit of their show at the battle of the bands earlier that week, though all those crowds of people weren't entirely her thing unless she was the one on stage; something about performing cut through her anxiety. " you guys are 'fire' as the kids say. something like that. " was she being purposefully embarrassing ? maybe -- it was hard to tell with nessie. eventually she opted for red velvet, handing whoever was behind the table some cash.
