it's cool that you're an atheist (i identify as a form of that as well) but some of my mutuals are hurt by ppl constantly devaluing their religion/spirituality/rituals online, especially when they're queer feminists themselves, so maybe consider their feelings before making negative posts about something they find necessary and good in their lives :((
so i first would like to say that my post on this subject was a part of a particular discussion that it doesn’t look like you were following (feel free to correct me) about religious celibacy that several of my mutuals were engaging in. it was a fairly specific issue about which i had an opinion to share, largely with those mutuals.
i’m not sure why you felt the need to send this--you’re the only person who has expressed any dismay about my comment and the majority of my mutuals share my sentiments--and it doesn’t seem as though you were offended by it. again, of course, correct me if i’m wrong. i’m sorry if it upset you, but i didn’t really have a good way to tag a post like that (if you want me to tag similar things under a certain name, i will always do so).
of course, i understand and respect the fact that religion is incredibly important to some people. they have every right to it and i respect their decision to follow their faith. i have no animosity toward christians or followers of any religion whatsoever, i don’t claim to know better than them, i respect and acknowledge them completely.
however, just as religious people have the right to express their faith, i think that i have a right to express my opinions regarding organized religion as an institution (note: as an institution, not as the concept of faith itself). the subjugation of women and of lgbt people through organized religion in different forms cannot be denied. it’s a part of history, and in some religious circles, it persists very strongly. that subjugation doesn’t come from faith itself; rather, it comes from bigots who claim religion as justification. i understand that this sort of harm is not the purpose of religion, but it is an all too common side effect of organized religion that has negatively affected me on several occasions. you can imagine, then, why i might find issue with organized religion and why i might wish to express those opinions on my blog, which is a safe space for me. if i’ve unintentionally upset anyone by that earlier comment, i really do apologize and will tag whatever is needed. this conversation is a difficult one for many people. however, and this stands repeating, none of my followers seemed upset by that comment apart from you, who appear to be acting on some unknown others’ behalf.
i do believe that i have the right to talk about my opinions on my own blog, though, and i will continue to do so while making every effort to keep my followers safe.
