I know a lot of bloodymary fics include Simon seeing Grace as his "angel", but consider:

Simon goes full-blown religious fervor upon being rescued by Grace and Rocky, his cynicism kinda broken by the whole eaten-by-an-eldritch-god thing.

Ryland is not an idiot. He clocks the cultish behavior immediately, and tries to dismantle it. He says he's just a human, like Simon, and proceeds to be a gross, clumsy person around him.

However, Grace does not jeopardize Simon's recovery to get him to see reason, so Simon still sees this angelic being taking care of him.

Grace as a bit of a breakdown, since Simon's devotion is antithetical to how he was used and betrayed on Earth (even if for the greater good).

Grace opens up to Simon about running from a chance to save the world which Simon, to his credit couldn't didn't do. Simon finally acknowledges that Grace might just be a clean, good person.

They have a bit of a setback when Simon starts to lowkey worship Rocky instead. Simon watches him eat once and that problem is nipped in the bud.

It's like how the people who feel that they're "addicted to porn/sex/masturbation" are statistically most often people who are religious in a way that inherently pathologizes these acts more so than people who are objectively being unusually compulsive in their engagement with the above. In the same way I'd argue that the people who feel that they're "addicted to sugar" are more likely to be people who pathologize their consumption of sugar to an unusual degree than people whose sugar consumption is far above average
