It had been another wicked party that Amy wouldn’t remember. She’d meant to go back to her room after everyone had left, but she’d kept forgetting why she was opening the door. It took a few minutes to realize she was looking up at the underside of a doorknob. Whatever she’d had the night before had left her dizzy, shaky, and cotton-mouthed; could’ve been more than one thing for all she knew.
Once she was finally on her feet, she looked over and noticed Jesse face-down on his bed. She laughed the slightest bit, rubbing her forehead as she slowly made her way to his side.
“Oi, it’s morning, Jess,” she said, groggily but loudly. When he didn’t respond, she leaned over and gave him a shake.
“Jesse?” Nothing. She shook him again, harder. Still nothing. Suddenly the worst-case-scenario entered her mind.
“Jesse!” She turned him over, still shaking him. “Jesse, wake up now!” When shaking him harder didn’t work, she panicked and slapped him.
“Ow!” Jesse came to with a start and Amy jumped back.
“Oh my god, don’t ever do that again!” she exclaimed.
“Do what, Amy, what the hell?!” he responded, holding his cheek and trying to sit up.
“I thought you were--...” She stopped short then shook her head. “Never mind.” Leaning over again, she hugged him.
“I’m all for hugs, man,” he started after a moment, “but it’s not a good idea.”
“Why not,” she asked, not letting go.
“Because I’m gonna throw up in like five seconds.”
