My wife and I had so much fun yesterday, taping the pre-Valentine's episode of @gmanetwork's "Pinoy MD" which airs this Saturday morning at 6AM on GMA-7. Here's a teaser of the behind-the-scenes video I made, shot using the Nikon KeyMission 170 action camera. The Plight Of The Medical Profession
Money had never been our ultimate motivator. Never had been and never will be. But proper compensation is our right that should not have needed to be fought for. Because it is our right to begin with. Our patients are our advocacies, individually and as a profession, but we are just as human as anyone else and our compulsions and our behaviours are greatly affected by our environment and our circumstances. Such is forgivable. We never meant to be crass. That is not our nature as doctors. But sometimes, it simply happens. Provocation from an unguided patient should not be enough to make us throw away who we are, but it happens anyway. We fight for what we deserve without having to resort to unlinking ourselves from the cultured species that we are. Do not judge if you have never walked our walk. Your timing as always is wrong. Obviously, you know nothing about our struggles. Even the tamest, and well balanced undividual snap when pushed to the wall too long and too frequently. Thousands of us have opted to leave, for better and less hazardous jobs somewhere else. Because this is how our country stops brain drain. Callously shame the medical profession in a way that is neither acceptable nor warranted. Connect the dots, fill in the gaps and play our roles while you’re at it. Go to the hospitals, where the environment is a little less of a battlefield, put on your best smiles, and wear our coats, and say we never tried. There are some of us left. Continue the aggression, and drain this country some more.
Never let an institution diminish your worth. If they are willing to pay a lawyer that much, why can't they balance a doctor's compensation with his or her amount of responsibilities?
